Does this send a strong message to the Federal Government?

Only the Governor of Texas would go so far to pander to the most gullible people on the internet.

Ok. What's your point?

Are you under the impression that those statistics somehow make the whole conspiracy theory that the OP (and the Governor's pandering) any less bullshit?

Of course. It is the lack of faith in government that foments those beliefs. When a government is caught hiding the fact that they are spying on it's own citizens emails, phone calls and search histories, what else are they capable of hiding?

The fact that people don't trust the government is not evidence that the government is lying.

People believing something doesn't make it true.

People believing something doesn't make it true.

People don't trust government because the government has been caught lying to the people time and time again.

And a line can be drawn directly from that to this.

What the government claims they are doing and the reality of what they are actually doing have become so enormously divergent, is it any wonder that Americans which to verify the veracity of their words compared to their actions?

When only 19 out of every 100 Americans believe that the Federal Government can be trusted to do the right thing, oversight by an entity they do trust is the order of the day.

Anybody that knows anything about Special Forces, SEALs, etc would know that there is somewhere around ZERO (0) chance of them becoming tools and oppressors for the goobermint.

In fact, the government fears those guys more than you might know

Just a fact.

If you want to worry about your rights, look at the guys wearing badges. Not at the Armed Forces and ESPECIALLY not at elite troops.

Agreed, but I don't see a problem with a governor providing some oversight on military operations conducted within the civilian population CONUS.

You just shattered the entire premise behind the Tea Party?

They are radically opposed to the government that exists only in their head.

Again, the fact that something is believable is not evidence that it is true.

If we agree that it is indeed believable, isn't it prudent to provide oversight?

No.

Emphatically no.

Texas has a right to monitor Federal Military operations inside its State.

On a Federal Reservation (Fort Bragg, Fort Sam, etc)? No. On State land? Not only 'yes' but 'Hell Yes!'

Should they? Close call. I see nothing wrong with it. I think it is prudent..... And they might be able to learn something for their own National Guard types

Remember, we are SUPPOSED to be a Confederation of States, not a single entity. Although we all know that went out the door several decades ago, the facade is still important to maintain

Oh wow! You sound like someone who really knows stuff. You have real experience with special forces! You are so rugged!

Shockingly enough, I agree with almost everything in this post.

I do not deny that Texas has the right to do whatever the fuck it wants.

The part I disagree with is the "prudence" part. Unlike the conspiracy nuts that he's pandering to, it's almost certain that Governor Abbott actually has access to all the details of "Operation Jade Helm", and is completely aware of all the bullshit surrounding it and the root of the requests he's responding to.

More conspiracy theory crap. Why am I not surprised you would post this silly shit?

Woah, are you saying the Governor's Executive Order is a fake/forgery?

That's sounds like a massive conspiracy. Just how did a group of hackers hijack the Governor's webpage and fake his executive order?

Of course not. This is a military training exercise, and since it is going to happen partially in Texas, the state wants to be informed of any aspects of it that might effect the citizens of Texas. Trying to portray it as some sort of confrontation between Texas and the federal government is the crazy conspiracy theory part, but you knew that before you posted the thread.

Oh yes, I'm sure the Governor made such a dramatic political calculation that can result in bloodshed between Texas and the Feds to satisfy a petty political urge.

Only a fucking moron could say that with a straight face and believe it.

The fact that you think this could possibly result in "bloodshed between Texas and the Feds" puts you rather definitively in the group of people I was referring to.
Texas holds eleven military bases that would be patriotated upon secession. That's among many reason you Leftwats fear that republic.

Nobody fears Texas secession. It's just dumb to think that has a snowball's chance of happening, but the crazies panties get all damp at the thought of it.

The reason I don't think this sends a strong msg to federal govt
is the current Administration doesn't care or respect Constitutional standards.

If you want to use this as a teaching tool about the Bill of Rights
and "no soldiers being quartered" in households, you can try,
but if this Administration doesn't respect religious freedom and due process
of citizens anyway, the purpose of the letter is confirmation with OTHER CITIZENS
to assure the public that the Governor believes in enforcing laws, regardless
if the Feds can be trusted to enforce anything but political agenda.

That's a message to the citizens, not the Federal Administration,
who are more concerned with playing politics.

The only MESSAGE is that he assigned the state guard to act as a sort of liaison between the state and the military training. Only an idiot would see it as confrontational.

Sure they would......

Actually, we should give the Texans what they want...Autonomy. Pull out the military from the bases and pull out the Border Patrol and let them run things. Wave good luck as we leave.
