So...I was watching a video showing the reaction of people sentenced for various crimes and how the impact and severity of the sentences, especially those convicted for life, struck them. Some, especially those whose crimes were not intentional or pre-mediated and thought they might be set free, broke down in tears or uncontrolled sobbing, fell to the floor, and nearly convulsed in agony realizing their lives were essentially over.
Well, to get to the point, if you believe in God, particularly the God of the bible in which Heaven and Hell are clearly real places and the soul, whether good or evil, is eternal...well then, though you probably don't give it much thought, you are therefore aware that the eighty or ninety years some people are lucky enough to live up to is yet absolutely irrelevant compared to the length of your life in eternity. Our justice system and every other nation's justice system whether today or a thousand years ago are or were microcosms of that justice system that exist beyond this life and in which there are only two sentences, Heaven and Hell. Simple, direct, relevant to all of humanity's time on Earth. You might also be aware that (reading between the lines in the bible) most people today and throughout history are going to Hell. Jesus implied as much describing the road to destruction or damnation as wider than that to salvation. It would be very depressing and downright cruel, you might imagine, if God didn't provide a way out. Fortunately, He did and that way out is through Jesus Christ, the son of God.
Again, the sadness of those people breaking down in tears because they are facing the rest of their existence on Earth behind bars is nothing compared to the sadness people will feel facing eternity in hell.
Okay, laugh now at Christians for believing in this. Just don't die and find you're still alive, but facing the rest of your REAL existence in the most frighteningly horrible place ever.
And remember, there is a way to avoid that scenario.

If you don't get to go free through the pearly gates, don't drop the soap, in gen pop, as the pain'l be anal, eternal?
