I think this would be a wonderful opportunity to pause for a moment and give thanks for the great contributions of the Obama influence for small percentage in the Black community. Their peaceful and generous nature make them ideal neighbors, lending testimony to their exceptional family values and parenting skills unrivaled by any other culture. Their commitment to academic excellence enriches our schools and serves as an example to all who hope to achieve prominence as a people. Real estate values are fueled by the mix of African Americans into an area due to their caring and respectful nature of these communities, an example of all they have achieved through their enthusiasm for self-improvement by hard work and a self-reliant can-do nature. Without their industrious and creative drive, we would be poorer as a nation.

Now that he's captured the presidency, let's hope he follows through

The idea is radical, revolutionary and just what urban America needs: a federal disaster declaration for our most impoverished neighborhoods hard hit by crime, urban blight and economic malaise.

When the president declares an area to be a disaster, additional federal assistance can be applied while regulations and rules for rebuilding and revitalizing the affected area are often waived or reduced.

This is a great idea, but there are still the obstructionist local politicians who glom onto those funds and divert them to their pet beneficiaries. Cities like Baltimore are run like Venezuela or another third-world recipient of US federal funds.

Baltimore, like DC, is a shithole outside of the major tourist areas. Why? Because the status quo does not sell. As far as Cummings' contribution to his district? As a Congressional representative, he can and does direct federal funding into that area. What happens afterwards is up to the local pols. But, you'd think Cummings would want to know what the hell happened to the funding he funneled into that district. I guess rats' lives matter...

According to Recovery.gov, one of Baltimore’s central ZIP codes, 21201, received the most stimulus funding in the city, a total of $837,955,866. The amount included funding for 276 awards, and the website reports that the spending had created 290 jobs in the fourth quarter in 2013.

Of this amount, $467.1 million went to education; $206.1 million to the environment; $24 million to "family"; $16.1 million to infrastructure; $15.2 million to transportation; $11.9 million to housing; and $3.1 million to job training.

ZIP code 21202 received $425,170,937, including a $136 million grant to "improve teaching and learning for students most at risk of failing to meet State academic achievement standards."

Twenty-nine other ZIP codes listed in Baltimore city received a total of $568,641,684.

The Free Beacon calculated the total amount of stimulus funds disbursed to all ZIP codes in Baltimore City, as reported on the stimulus website Recovery.gov. The analysis includes the totals of awards to prime recipients in Baltimore, plus sub-recipient awards to Baltimore organizations and companies that conducted stimulus projects located outside the city.

The projects included $26.5 million from the Justice Department (DOJ) to combat gang activity and provide community support for at-risk juveniles.
