Honestly I like Bernie; Students should study for free

Yes I would. Randomness is just cruel.

Lets say we have 10 dice.
Capitalism: Random rolls, some 6, some 1, who knows
Democratic Socialism: We patiently place each dice down on a 4 or 5. Everyone does well.

How is that bad?
After Bernie takes away 60-70% of your income your $15 an hour is going to look more like $6 an hour.
Happy now?
Meanwhile your neighbor's kid is in her fourth year studying medieval fashion. So she can get a job making burnt coffee.
I haven’t seen the 60-70% tax plan. Can you post a link?

I think Im voting for Bernie. Students shouldn’t have to worry about debt and loans while studying to fix our broken society. These loans are immoral and need to be forgiven.

Also anyone working full time deserves a comfortable $15/hour wage and free medical care.

Thats all
Have you and Bernie informed the staff of the countries universities that they'll be working for free?
what do you mean working for free?
The universities pay their bills, including payroll, with the use of those student loans.

If students are studying for free, that means that the Universities aren't getting any money.

How do you pay professors and left-wing extremists if you have no money?
Coolie Colleges Don't Belong in America

Get rid of this obsolete aristocratic institution entirely. For everybody but spoiled brats living off a high allowance, college is unAmerican indentured servitude. Let the corporations pay retirees to train accepted job applicants on what they need to know for the jobs they will do. That way, education will be a lot more practical and focused exclusively on job-related subjects. Preparation is the most important part of production.

None of those things even comes close to paying for bernies crazy ideas.
Yes it does. Between making rich assholes and companies actually PAY taxes instead of getting a refund, and have MORE people going to work because they can actually get a college education and keeping them healthy this shit pays for its self.
I would whether see those who pay no taxes not get a refund. Instead of what you suggested.
Then tell the IRS to stop taking taxes from them. OR here is a bright idea pay them more and MAYBE then they would make enough to pay taxes. With 5 kids EVEN AFTER I get done with college and am making 50 or 60k a year I don't expect to pay taxes.
I asked you what the requirements would be.
Can a low GPA student attend? Someone with a criminal record?
How many would attend just because it's free and turn around and do nothing with their liberals arts degree?
You give anything away for free and it loses its value, just like welfare.
The same they are now! High enough GPA and SAT or ACT scores etc. Why should any of that change? Literally it's just insuring young folks can start a life without 50-100k in student loan debt.

You ignored all of my other concerns.
But it all really boils down to...If you want to go to college pay for it your damn self.
Nope. Just like the government can kiss my white ass if they think I am paying a fucking PENNY back to it for wanting to educate myself so I can get a decent job, you just want the poor to stay dumbed down and to remain the underclass so rich CEO's can get away with slave wages and not paying taxes. Sick society that doesn't want ALL its members to reach their highest capabilities. Our taxes pay for public school from pre k through 12th grade they can do the same fucking thing for college.
You're kidding, right. Medicare for all would bankrupt us alone. Not to mention free college.
Funny how 19 years of war in Afghanistan and 15 years of war in Iraq etc hasn't bankrupted us, Funny how bailing out CAPITALIST companies didn't bankrupt us, funny how BILLIONS in foreign aid doesn't bankrupt us but providing things 95% of the countries in the world have WOULD bankrupt us.
Some of those bailouts where too bailout the unions. and if you're whiming about the bailout you need to talk to your Democrats because they voted for it to give them the bailouts
Bush was President....he was a republican and MANY republicans voted for that shit as well so.
You're an ignorant motherfucker maybe they shouldn't have more children than they can afford to have.
My kids are just fine actually. All well fed, clothed and have a nice home over their heads for now. All because we know how to game the shit out of the system and will continue to do so. Do what we must to survive. We weren't born with a silver spoon in our mouths nor were we EVER given a chance at a better life so we have made our own fucking way doing it however I can and damn its fine fucking the government over to do so. So take your nuts in your wife's purse cuckolded ass and fuck off. Thanks BOY.

And you call yourself preacher?
Preacher of theft and graft maybe.

Nobody owes you a chance at a better life.

You're not fucking the government dumbass,it's not their money you're stealing it's the American taxpayers money.

You are complete scum...if your face was on fire I'd stomp it out wearing golf shoes.

If you don’t want student debt then get a job and pay for it yourself, or get your parents to pay for it. Another option is to not go to an expensive university. You are not entitled to a free higher education. If everyone got “free college” then it wouldn’t be “higher education” it would be basic education. Besides, there are plenty of scholarship programs for the really smart. Although many scholarships are squandered because they pick people based on skin color and gender rather than test scores in high school.
The universities could also pay their professors minimum wage or have it be voluntary. There is no way taxpayers should be paying the staffs of these schools.
Freeloading Union-Haters Fake Rebellion

Sports fans had your same attitude about the pros unionizing. In spite of that, the players' self-respect forced the fans to accept higher ticket prices. The fans gave in to the changed status quo and attendance actually rose.

How much is his "speculation tax" going to raise each year?
Sanders thinks it will raise $240 Billion a year which would fund his program. The numbers have been disputed by financial institutions as they say it doesn’t compensate for drops in the market which may be caused by the tax.

The bill calls for a tax of 0.5% for stocks, 0.1% for bonds, and 0.005% for derivatives. A $1,000 stock trade would be taxed $5, while a $1,000 trade in derivatives would be taxed $0.05.

Our top 15 financial service companies had combined Net Income of about $165 billion for FY2018.
I'm sure a tax that raised $240 billion would have absolutely no impact on securities trading or employment.

I guess we could look at other successful examples of this type of tax from around the world......
oh, right, there aren't any. Every time it was tried it killed trading and raised next to no new revenue and was quickly repealed.

Financial transactions taxes: the international experience and the lessons for Canada (BP-419E)

Best case here......Switzerland. 0.48% of GNP.

Equivalent to about $100 billion for us.

Here's info about Sweden's failed tax.

Swedish financial transaction tax - Wikipedia

I especially liked this.....

The volume of futures trading fell by 98% and the options trading market disappeared.[1] 60% of the trading volume of the eleven most actively traded Swedish share classes moved to the UK after the announcement in 1986 that the tax rate would double. 30% of all Swedish equity trading moved offshore.

And this....

In addition, as taxable trading volumes fell, so did revenues from capital gains taxes, entirely offsetting revenues from the equity transactions tax that had grown to 4,000 million Swedish kronor by 1988.[4]

Basically drove the trading, and jobs, to London and raised ZERO.

Good info, thanks for posting. I can see an argument being made by comparing a smaller niche market to worlds biggest market in the US and factors that would effect or limit the movement to other markets. However, I think there is a strong case to be made by comparing historical effects of these taxes and how far off the revenue forecasts have been. I'll dig in more and respond if I see anything else.

I think you are mistaken with these numbers... Sanders plan is addressing public college tuition. Total revenue for public universities was $391 billion... 20% of which was tuition making the tuition revenue $78.2 billion a year. ASSUMING Bernie raises 240 Billion a year from the Wall Street tax, he would have plenty to cover the tuition costs. The remaining he wants to use to relieve student debt and invest in equity gaps and minority communities.

I can only imagine how GREAT America would be....

how amazingly PRODUCTIVE and HAPPY everyone would be

if we endeavored to EDUCATE and TRAIN them at a high level....

I'm not sure if the USA can maintain any high level of technological advancement if we make education so fkn hard to get

Tax revenues would fall. There would be no new revenues to pay for his giveaways.

My bad I misread your first post, you are talking about the financial institutions not the ability for the tax to pay for the tuition costs.

The tax isn't on the PROFITS of the financial institutions it would be on the transactions made so investors would eat the majority of the costs.
