Yet another win for civil rights. The real news is that Congress used its CRA power to knock down an Obama regulation which we could be seeing a lot more of in the next few months — with Congress possibly eliminating regs dating back to the very beginning of the Obama Administration.

House votes to void Obama administration’s Social Security gun background check rule.

Under the rule, which got final approval as President Obama was heading out the door in December, the Social Security Administration was instructed to scour its records to spot people who were so mentally impaired that their checks were sent to a payment representative. Those names were then to be entered in the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS).

The GOP-controlled House voted 235-180, breaking down almost entirely along party lines, to kill the new rule using the Congressional Review Act, which gives Capitol Hill a chance to swat down a lame-duck president’s last-minute regulations.

Gun-rights groups said the rule impinged on Americans’ Second Amendment rights, denying them the chance to buy a gun without good reason.

“This rule is a slap in the face of those in the disabled community because it paints all those who suffer from mental disorders with the same broad brush,” said Rep. Robert W. Goodlatte, Virginia Republican and chairman of the House Judiciary Committee.

He said people who suffer from mental disorders are more likely to be crime victims, not perpetrators.

If it becomes law, then the Dems will re-institute it when they have power, which they will in the future.

This is really a non-event.

With all the protest going on, liberals won't be in power for a looonnnggg time.
:lol: That's what you were saying in 2006, my little chick. And . . . Boom!
Gotta quote from me back then? Obama gave us more seats than we thought we could ever have imagined. When the economy comes back and your kind is still protesting, you will not have anything to give, but hate. The protesters are showing that now. So keep it up.

Odd that the NRA would support those that believe in gun rights?

This is the thinking of children.

So that is your argument Weasel.... Do you think it is ok for the NRA to give these politicians money who are in office to protect our best interest, not their own?
I know democrats get paid off too, but this thread is about the NRA..

The GOP lost seats in 2016. And guess what the general bi-terms results normally are?

Trump apologized to Australia, is not going to do a 20% Mexican import tax, wants an improved ACA, and Kushner is maneuvering to push Bannon and Conway out.

Life is much better than anti-Trumpers thought it would be so far under Trump.

I think all those seniors who had their retirement nest eggs stolen from them by Donald Trump should be allowed to carry as many guns as they can.

But it's dishonest to single out one organization when that's the SOP for Washington, left and right.

No it's not. It's about a half assesd attempt to deny Americans their constitutional right to bear arms without due process.

If they are mentally impaired enough to be on SS, they do not need a gun.

And yet the NRA blames mental illness for the vast majority of these horrendous mass murders, the now well recognized excuse which started with the Sandy Hook death toll of 20 children and 6 adults. So which is it? The NRA blames the mentally ill and the Trump & Co cabal are now saying not so fast! And of course we know that it's not guns that kill people!!!!

From Wayne LaPierre's Dec 2014 official Sandy Hook address for the NRA;
~~ NRA: full statement by Wayne LaPierre in response to Newtown shootings ~~
The truth is that our society is populated by an unknown number of genuine monsters — people so deranged, so evil, so possessed by voices and driven by demons that no sane person can possibly ever comprehend them. They walk among us every day. And does anybody really believe that the next Adam Lanza isn't planning his attack on a school he's already identified at this very moment?

How many more copycats are waiting in the wings for their moment of fame — from a national media machine that rewards them with the wall-to-wall attention and sense of identity that they crave — while provoking others to try to make their mark?

A dozen more killers? A hundred? More? How can we possibly even guess how many, given our nation's refusal to create an active national database of the mentally ill?

Is it the crazies with the guns or just the people with the guns who are killing others. Either The NRA has some of the answer, or the Trump & Co cabal have some of the answer, but they are clearly at odds. What is clear is that in D.C. v Heller, Justice Antonin Scalia wrote this passage which addresses the entire scope of this issue;

"Although we do not undertake an exhaustive historical analysis today of the full scope of the Second Amendment , nothing in our opinion should be taken to cast doubt on longstanding prohibitions on the possession of firearms by felons and the mentally ill, or laws forbidding the carrying of firearms in sensitive places such as schools and government buildings, or laws imposing conditions and qualifications on the commercial sale of arms."
DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA v. HELLER

I'm putting my money down on Scalia's opinion in Heller and discounting the validity of both the NRA and Trump!

EDIT: BTW The Music Died Today 58 years ago. RIP Buddy, Ritchie and JP!
