"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies. … Increasing America’s debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that “the buck stops here.” Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better."

Wonderful now in two or three months we get to do the whole thing over again please forgive me if I'm not impressed by the so called leaders on either side.

actually not it is a done deal for a year

The Senate plan includes a proposal offered by McConnell in the 2011 debt ceiling crisis that allows Congress to disapprove of the debt ceiling increase, which means lawmakers will formally vote on whether to reject a debt ceiling increase until Feb. 7. Obama can veto that legislation if it passes. If Congress fails as expected to gather a two-thirds majority to override the veto, the debt ceiling would be raised.

Don't know where you are getting that misinformation.

Lawmakers didn’t show they’re any closer to resolving the underlying issues of spending priorities and deficit-reduction measures, particularly in the House where a shrinking political middle makes compromise elusive.
The deal funds the government at Republican-backed spending levels through Jan. 15, 2014, and suspends the debt limit through Feb. 7. The focus now shifts to a new series of deadlines -- the first for budget negotiations with a Dec. 13 target -- that set up more rounds of political combat over taxes and spending on programs including Social Security and Medicare.

The losers are the American taxpayer.

The Clowns can now spend even more money and the ACA is gonna break the bank.

Yup. I'd say our grandchildren are gonna look back on this and wonder what kind of idiots we were to elect these clowns to run the country.

The clowns spent $24 Billion and got nothing accomplished. That's waste.

And the ACA is actually going to help the deficit. You need an update to your antique rhetoric.

This entire thing represents a failure by both political parties. There are no winners and only one loser: The American People.

Don't forget that the majority of the debt is due to non other than George W. Bush with his worthless wars and tax cuts for the rich. Not only did he sink the economy, he sunk us so low that it would take Jesus to get us out of the hole. Thankfully, Obama has done much to make it better, in spite of the obstructionists who keep lying about everything and fooling their people that they are the ones who will save the country!:lol:

Mertex,

Bush's wars were a big mistake, and he did add a lot to the debt. When he left office the debt stood at $11 trillion. It is now $17 trillion. Obama will add more to the debt than all other U.S. President's combined.

If you didn't like Bush, that's fine. But Obama has not made the debt situation "much better." In fact, he has made it much worse.

Repo licans. You lose again. This time it cost us money, but you lose again. And again.

It cost the taxpayers an extra 2 Billion plus for Reid to bribe McConnell into surrender.

The taxpayers lost again.
