Having and wanting are two different things. Yes, single-income families were the norm years ago, but we lived in smaller houses, we had one car for the entire family, we seldom went to fast food or out for dinner, we ate home every day.

The real reason married women work is because we want more things today. If you look at what we spend for entertainment and conveniences, that's more than we used to pay for a mortgage years ago. Single women need to work to support their families. You can't have three, four or five kids when doing that and still maintain a standard of living.

1) Take in more immigrants.
