I think medical and basic food should be a right!
1. We need single payer. No one should go deep into debt and no other country allows such idiocy to occur within the first world. Fuck Paul Ryan and fuck anyone that enjoys this kind of suffering!
2. All people that can't afford to eat should be given food stamps. It is just the right thing to do!

All conservative arguments against these things are from the deep past...Somehow making people suffer is somehow good within their minds. Well, guess what, it is unacceptable to me within the riches country on earth and we shouldn't allow it. It is the right thing to do, moral thing to do and economic thing to do. When people are healthy and not hungry they can make more money + pay more taxes and enhance our economy for us all.

Because we didn't have this stuff in 1787 doesn't mean it shouldn't be a right. Things change and people wake up and look around at the nastiness within our world hoping for better.

Most of western europe work pretty freaking good and have respectable safetynets. Guess what, they're more wealthy per capital by far. How the fuck can you argue that they're failures? Why should all of our resources go to the top, while most of the country dives into the shit can.How is this good?

It is absolutely the roll of the nation to make sure everyone is physically taken care of. And adequate 1st - 12th grade education is also a right for everyone, as well as basic housing. It isn't a matter of taking care of people who don't bother to take care of themselves; it is an issue of what is best for the society as a whole. If you go to 3rd world countries, you see what it is like when these things are not available for everyone. It isn't a matter of socialism, but as a developed humane society, we need to take responsibility for the society as a whole. The poor will always be with us. People with less aptitude will always be with us. Unless we want to see them begging in the streets and living in squalor, we need to accept they are our responsibility as a society.

Not doing so is like casting off the elderly without social security or medicare: despicable.

I completely agree...I should be fiscally responsible for my three children as I made a conscious decision to bring them into this world...I should also be responsible for all people that all other people decided to bring into the world....makes perfect sense.

Should we end the right to a publicly funded education?

Whoa...that's super clever of you.
Are you implying that since we fund education we should be REQUIRED to pay for more?
You sound like a teen daughter.
"Dad, you pay my cell phone bill...that obligates you to pay my car payment as well you know."

They hate civilization and what they really want is for the top 5% to have it all and everyone else can be damned.

No public services
No help
No infrastructure for all
No nothing

These liberterians wouldn't be happy until the poor are thrown into ghettos to die. They'd probably force a caste like system on populations with the rich being the only ones allowed to do most things, while the poor would be extremely limited.
The funny part is that most of them would end up destitute too. These people are not the top wealthy 10 percent. They depend on social services too, whether it is education, police, ambulance and fire services, often health care, unemployment, transportation, roads, dams, clean water, and on and on. Those are all services for everyone, paid with our taxes. Without those things, we would be a third world country, and Trump is trying to do away with many of them.

Yes, hire you own fire protection, I have extinguishers.

Cable tv should be a right. Why should I have to pay for a wire going to my tv.

Perhaps cable shouln be free

America was founded with government assistance kinds of programs and attitudes. Public land, property, was often free and or awarded for various reasons by the government.
Yes. Government gave land grants. Now plow it with your teeth while you fight off Indians and bandits.
All land grants and awards weren't as you describe. Point is, the founders saw, installed and accepted government obligations for assistance for citizens.

Every respectable civilization of the past 2,500 years did too. Roman empire, Greece, China, etc. All had government investment of infrastructure, science and education...

Liberterianism is a joke.
Rome fell, so did Greece, the people of both lived through some pretty 'dark ages' and the Chinese lived under communist rule and their people that survived it are still trying to overcome that communist tragedy.

No one is stopping you from growing a garden, picking food from the wild, canning your own food or filing for food stamps. If you still need help there are places all over the country that hand out food to the needy. You can also learn how to take care of your own health for the most part so you won't be such a burden on society and that would be much more productive than being such a big ass whiner on some obscure internet message board.

Do your thing ding-a-ling....

20+ Grants for Homesteaders and Beginner Farmers

We have all had that dream to either start a farm or build a remote homestead where we can raise our families, a way to escape from the daily hustle and bustle of our daily lives. When we fight traffic to and from our mundane jobs, we fantasies about a simpler life where our hard work is rewarded and traditional values are paramount.....................

In some ways I agree, and some I don’t. First off all, “needs” have different priority levels. Basic medical can literally be an immediate life or death need, whereas education is more obscure. Let’s say for example 1st thru 12 grade education was made a national constitutional right. Now how do we guarantee “equal protection of the laws” under this right? Would we have to guarantee every single child in the USA is taught the exact same curriculum? So now the 300 something million people have to come together and agree to what and how our children are taught. Do Democrats in San Francisco really want Betsy DeVos setting the curriculum for their kids? You’d necessarily have to surrender a great deal of local control and funding to guarantee uniform standards and outcome across the nation. Sorry, but that’s something I’m just not ready to surrender. If some ignorant anti-science government takes over in Washington DC, then they could decide that education funding to every student in the USA will be cut in half, and half their day will be spent learning creationism. Well suddenly, guaranteeing that “need” to every child in America doesn’t seem so appealing to me. If kids in Louisiana need better education, at some point the people there really need to stand up and demand it from their own leaders. I’ll help them make that stand, but I won’t surrender my local control.

My view on healthcare is more nuanced. I do believe citizens who literally don’t have the funds for healthcare should get federal support. Put it in the US Constitution, it should be a pretty simple amendment to write. No American should die because they couldn’t afford healthcare; we shouldn’t let anyone “die in the street” as Trump once said. But the healthcare system as a whole is much more complicated. There will be rationing, whether by individual wealth, or by government edict, or by a mixture of the two, it will happen. With so many different types of healthcare services, and so many different funding mechanisms, it’s extremely difficult for everyone to agree on a single unified and coherent “system”. I think even if Democrats could scrape together enough votes to push through a “Medicare for all” system, it could literally cause states that didn’t want to take part secede. And if that happened, would it really have been worth it? Some people in the seceded states could end up in worse condition under their new system, then they would have if they remained in the USA. I also have to consider the possibility of a healthcare hostile government taking over in Washington DC. They could cut my healthcare funding in half in order to buy more battleships and bombs. I trust my state government more than the federal government; so again like education, I fall on the side of more local control.

Medicaid is essentially an American's right to medical care regardless of the ability to pay.
