So, you think that there was no element "intimidation" in that situation? In both cases we're talking about maintaining the peace where violence has broken out. The only difference is in one situation they were ordered to do so, whereas I'm talking about a situation where people are voluntarily doing so.

Or you could leave it to the local authorities and secret service agents, since they seem to be doing a fine job. Whether or not a military presence is present if you get thousands of protesters that infiltrate the grounds of a rally (Chicago), you are still going to be faced with either postponing the rally or potential riots. Seriously, there have been minor incidents, but I think that we need to give more credit to the individuals that are actually staffing the security at both his events, and the events of other politicians in the election. Given the amount of tension that this election cycle is bringing, these guys have been doing a great job in my opinion.

Also, you would be unlikely to get active duty military assigned to such a duty so you would be stuck with the national guard or weekend warriors which, no offense, just isn't the same as an active duty detail. Also, more likely than not, they would lack the experience and familiarity with the surroundings that the local law enforcement agencies have.
