80% of the inmates in Angola prison are serving life sentences without the possibility of parole. Angola prison had been averaging 40 murders a year when the new warden stepped in. His first actions were to have everyone treated as if they were created in the image of God. All people should be treated with that dignity. No swearing by prisoners or guards was allowed. People who died in prison would get wooden coffins, not the cardboard that had been used.

The next step was to create Christian seminaries in the prison to teach people how God has reached out to them so that He may always be with them. Through private funding a Christian college and several chapels were built. Inmates are free to attend as they wish.

Today there are a number of prisoners who are now ordained Pastors. Most inmates now attend the college or services. Even Muslims attend. And Angola has gone from 40 murders a year to not one since 1996.

Sorry to hear that YOU need an imaginary sky fairy to make you be moral.....most of us do it because of the Golden Rule and empathy. Most of us don't need the fear of some sky fairy punishing us to do the right thing.

If the only thing stopping you from murdering someone is your fear of an imaginary man in the sky, you are a despicable human being.

Right & wrong are not about fear of the supernatural.

It doesn't take a very sophisticated mind to conclude, logically, that one cannot intentionally harm other people or their property. And given more thought, an entire "code of conduct" can evolve, which might allow people to get along together in the long term.

But there is a germ of truth in the OP, and that is that some "evil" behavior is apparently harmless (to everyone else), and there are many activities that are not logically supportable that are virtually necessary for the success of any society.

Why help a stranger? Why give to charity? Why donate your time, effort and money to civic improvement?

What's wrong with downloading kiddie-porn? Lusting after your neighbor's wife? Screwing her, if you don't get caught? Filing a fraudulent claim against a large insurance company, or the government? Suing someone for an injury for which you were at fault? Taking drugs?

Killing a healthy, viable baby who would be born an hour from now, if left to its natural course?

Helping a severely depressed person commit suicide?

If there is no "god," why not?
