I think it's like $64 billion. In my future fantasy land of Westeros, that would be renegotiated.
We'll begin to employ robot teachers. They dont have pensions. We'll invent a 21st Century model of education where cenralized brick-and-mortar institutions are no longer the norm. Information is free and free flowing, a notion that hasn't yet overcome our cultural lag and old assumptions about why education has to be expensive.
Kids could attend virtual reality classrooms represented by cool avatars. Real world socialization can be fostered via local clubs (beach volleyball, mountain biking, search for Bigfoot, etc.).
I don't think the virtual reality classroom option would work since many parents need to work and tend to use school as babysitting in a sense.
