The KKK has always been conservative...regardless of party affiliation. Republicans who favored civil rights in the '60s were called "bleeding heart Liberals." For the entire time that the Ku Klux Klan had any meaningful existence, it was very solidly aligned with the Democratic Party.
It's funny how those of you on the wrong dismiss the connection between your own party and the KKK, while trying to smear Republican because of an unproven possibility that two decades before he was born, his father might have been involved in a KKK-related melee.
