Indiana school superintendent charged after pretending sick student was her son to get him treatment

As I've told another member, I've raised three children to the age of majority without having any type of health insurance.
Yes,a very stupid decision indeed, and not sustainable over the whole. You can play Russian roulette 50 times and survive...that would not be a good argument that everyone or most will survive.

And if you don't see a crisis, it's because you haven't looked. Hint: the national crisis would not be defined by your personal experience.

Your evidence?
You seem defensive. My argument is with the Englishman, not you.
Are you an advocate for a government health care system in the USA?

Here's just ONE case of murder by Godvernment.

LMGTFY

.

Before we had Obamacare over 45 thousand people died each year in America because they were denied care. They didn't have insurance so no doctor would help them and the only obligation an ER has is to stabilize a patient then refer them to a doctor. Not to cure anyone.

Then there's the others who did have insurance but either the company denied the care or it was a cheap policy that didn't cover the problem. Which that added even more thousands of dead Americans to that total.

Here in America you are forced to lose everything you have, go into bankruptcy and face medical bills that people will never be able to pay in their lives. People lose their homes, their savings, their 401k and basically everything because they have no insurance coverage thus no health care.

Why is it ok for a private insurance company or doctor to kill people? That's what's been happening in America ever since regan deregulated health care

We can and should do much better. If we're going to go the capitalism route, then Obamacare was a very good start. If capitalism is going to control our health care then no insurance company should ever be allowed to kick anyone off a policy. Nor should people have to be forced to pay premiums for a policy that are so high, they can't afford it. Especially those who have been paying into that capitalistic system for decades without using it. Everyone is going to have to use insurance for pregnancies and when people get to their 50s and start having health problems. Those in their 50s paid into that system month in and month our without taking anything from it. It's not fair to charge them higher rates when they reach the age they have to start using it.

We need real choice. Both the capitalism system and public. People should have the freedom of choice of either system. There should be the rule that if you choose the capitalism system you can't go to the public system after the private insurance companies have taken their money for decades only to kick them off their policy or charge them such high rates they can't afford it. If you choose that private insurance system you choose it for life. You can't ever change.

Apparently, the lesson she wanted to teach the schoolchildren of Elwood, Indiana is that it is ok to lie and cheat and steal if you think you have a good reason. Insurance fraud was not the only option. She could have driven the boy's legal guardian to the HHS clinic in Elwood and gotten him treatment there, which consists of antibiotics, which HHS clinics provide on a sliding scale according to the income of the legal guardian.

Having your heart in the right place while your head is up your ass does not deserve a pardon; what it deserves is a conviction for insurance fraud, loss of her teaching license, a fine, community service and a period of probation during which she is prohibited from leaving her home without wearing a dunce cap.

Self reliance is very sustainable. Stupidity is relying on others that could care less about your health, they just want your money.

Its an indictment of US healthcare. She took a sick child to the doctor who refused to treat the kid because he couldnt pay.? Thats Victorian. We used to have shit like that before we had the NHS.

It wasn't because he had no insurance, it was that the superintendent was not the legal guardian and was not authorized to okay any medical examination. Quit reading into stories.

Since you love shoving words in people's mouths, Tommy, why are you obsessed with America but hate us so much?

Is there nothing think about in Wales at all, other than your "finest" export Prince Charles? oh dear
The topic is about the state of US healthcare.I can see why you dont want to discuss it.

You brought up the NHS, I responded to it, then you shoved words in my mouth about the child's treatment which I didn't say. Tommy, shoving words in people's mouths means you know you can't win the argument. But we knew that already. You can't win many arguments here which is apparent to many, so you resort to juvenile tactics like putting words in people's mouths.
Do you think that child had a right to be treated ?

No one has a "right" to healthcare, or food, or shelter. I don't know what you mean when you say "right", Tommy. Was it the moral thing to do, yes. Does he have a "right", no. And the drs and nurses were correct in wondering who this woman was bringing him in, since she was NOT a parent and NOT a legal guardian. Human trafficking, anyone?
Its a right in the civilised world.

Hospitals in the United States can't turn away people because they have no insurance. GG, get your facts straight before posting nonsense. The kid couldn't be treated because the super was not the legal parent or guardian and had no authorization to take him to a clinic, so the clinic must follow the law. Also, it wasn't a medical emergency, so the clinic has no authorization to take care of the boy.

Self reliance is very sustainable.
Not when it some to medical costs, it isn't. Dude, you are literally centuries behind this discussion and have no valuable input.

It sure is sustainable and I'm living proof.
What is your input, free healthcare for everyone?
There is no such thing as a free lunch. Someone is going to pay.
So we should privatize other life saving tax funded entities like police, firemen & the military? I’d be good with a national sales tax on booze, tobacco & sugar crap. Dime on each sale or whatever. Plus small copays. Those things are the biggest killers so in the end, the patients actually are paying for their own care.

Why is this even news?
Because our travesty & inhumane healthcare system is bankrupting families & killing patients. It’s gutting the middle class & working poor more than any other social woe.

I suspect that’s why it’s news. A woman risked her career to shove aside red tape on a timely disease that can kill or damage the heart quickly.

Hence: news.

Looks to me like the woman committed fraud. Not really news worthy in my opinion. I didn't read where the parents of the kid reason for not seeking medical care for him was because a lack of insurance.

Because doctors are your slaves who are not permitted to charge for their labor.

Actually they can and do. Your ignorance knows no bounds.
Socialism ensures that the sick are never turned away. Its what Jesus would have wanted.

Wait, you guys are running a theocracy over there?

It's amazing to me that the people who have not committed their way to the Lord, who do not proclaim Him their Savior are always the QUICKEST ones to know and say exactly what He would do in every situation.

Ain't that a kick in the head?
So Jesus would have turned away a sick child ?

Jesus would not have, Tommy. But Jesus is no longer with us, here, in the flesh. He is seated at the Right Hand of the Father at the moment, see. What he said about the government is this: give to Caesar what is Caesar's and to God what is God's. That means, to me, to gov't you give the bare minimum and you give to charity apart from government.

In any case my former statement stands. It's those who read the words of Jesus the least and who seek to know Him the least who always crow about "THIS IS WHAT JESUS WOULD WANT". It's insulting Tommy, you probably little know how prideful it is.

Especially given that Jesus would Himself heal, not demand that the government take care of the sick.

The boy wasn't treated because Ms Smitherman had no authority to authorize treatment for the boy. Typical, criticize out of your ignorance. Go back to your fantasy of a socialist paradise.
