Except family. A law was passed because of JFK hiring his brother as his Attorney General. It is illegal for the President to hire family. The Nepotism Act, I think.

There is no absolute bar against hiring family The punishment is that you can't pay them a salary. So if they're already forgoing a salary, there are no further prohibitions on working for government.

Of course, there may be ethics concerns.
