Is Growing Inequality Caused By Liberal Public Policies?

Want to break the hold that businesses have on graduates have with huge loans.

The federal government refinances those loans at two per cent, and the government loans future tuition and fees at two per cent. Take banks and business out of financing education.

This is like an immigration discussion, before reform is possible the spigot needs to be turned. The costs of college education is because of wild hiring of administrators and their abuse of monies available. Much like the IRS bitching about cuts in their increases, they hurt their customers and waste money on travel, 'morale rallies' at resorts, etc.

There will not be any summer jobs for youth if that youth must be paid $15.00 an hour.

Summer jobs for students have been in decline since the gov started bringing in illegals by the millions.
Lawn mowing? No more. MickyDs? Nope. Construction helper? Not a chance.
The gov has given away the jobs of our youth to foreigners, jack up wages to 15 bucks and our youth can forget about summer employment and job experience.

The government doesn't employ illegals, that would be businesses, the people you call job creators. Conservatives keep fighting high fines and jail for those employing illegals. Why is that?

If there was no work for illegals, they wouldn't come. If people employing illegals paid heavy fines, they'd stop doing it.

They do when when obama issues them all green cards like he's done twice now against the order of a federal judge.

bullshit. Herman Cain, Ben Carson, Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, Beyonce, A Rod, Tom Brady, Drew Brees, Katie Couric, George Soros, the Koch brothers, Imelt, Trump.

anyone willing to work can make it in the USA, you losers and leeeches make me sick.

Uh, several of your bright shining examples inherited their wealth.

Yes, so what? They used what they inherited to start businesses, create jobs, pay taxes---------how awful.
Success is much easier when you start on the finish line.

So how do you explain those who started the race bare foot and with a sprained ankle yet they still manage to win?

You have 300,000,000 million people in your country. You've given us a handful of names of people who became mega-successful - fewer than 10. What about the other 299,999,990?

Your notions of public policy are only good for 5% of the people. What about the 95%?

So you expect 100% millionaires?

A thought provoking story. The following sentence gets to the crux of the problem;

In order to do well in the world, young children—no matter how bright, no matter how capable—must learn essential skills. There are three places to learn them: at home, in school and on the job

A lot of youths are no longer able to get summer jobs where they learn needed skills. Schools fail to prepare students for the real world. And, single parent homes leave children with lack of guidance urging them to improve their lives.

But we hear the mantra of Economic Equality and demands to “do something about it.” So, just what are we expected to do? Continue the very policies that got us to this point?

Why is this a liberal failure when the Right can home school with YouTube?

Never any blame for the people who have all the economic power in this country? Wake up to the fact that we live in a plutocracy and the government does the bidding of the wealthy and connected. Opportunity is dead, economic mobility is dead, the American dream itself is dead and the billionaires and Wall Street killed it.
Strange how you can complain about that when the people you voted for are in power.

Used to be liberals had a point. Now they complain even when they are responsible.
I vote because it is my right, not because I feel voting alone has a chance of making America better. I try to vote for people who at least act as if they are concerned about the plight of the working class. You vote for politicians who are openly hostile to the working class and then complain that working people have things hard.

You vote for people that secretly are screwing the working class.

You also vote for people who are selling out our sovernty for cash. People that literally hate America and would intentionally weaken our military and our economy for millions in easy cash.

You vote for people that sneer at the family as a unit favoring instead that the government raise our children and turn them into strangers to their parents.

If you break down the family you destroy everything good about any society or nation. It's small wonder that so many Democrats have fractured families and improper upbringing and thus a weak sentimental feeling for the history of their country of birth. Bill Clinton and Obama are prime examples.....one born to an abusive drunk and another born to a serial polygamist he barely met

So how do you explain those who started the race bare foot and with a sprained ankle yet they still manage to win?

How many of those who come from disadvantaged circumstances make it? Very few. And those that do are exceptionally talented/smart/ driven, and they had a lot of help along the way. They had someone who believed in them, mentored them, opened doors for them. Sometimes it's a parent, a teacher, or a neighbour, or a first boss. They made it because someone saw the talent and nurtured it.

Low income parents are now working longer hours, just to support their families. There's less time and money for enrichment like museum trips or books or computers to help their kids succeed.

Schools in poor areas are poorly staffed, with fewer resources and larger classes. The school lunch programs provide poorer nutrition so young brains aren't getting the nutrients they need to succeed and with larger class sizes, teachers have less time for individual students.

There is little investment in education for the children of the poor. Conservatives believe that children need their mothers to be at home from them, unless the mother is poor. Poor mothers have to return to work as soon as possible after giving birth. No maternity leaves for the poor.

Expecting a poor child to succeed in today's economy is like rowing out to the middle of the lake, tying rocks around his legs, throwing him overboard and expecting him to swim to shore.

Saying that a handful make it, the rest are too lazy to swim is hardly a solution.

Well saying we must hand over trillions of dollars hasnt helped either. The Obama Administration funnelled millions of dollars into inner city Baltimore. We see the results.

What caused the inequality

1. Supply Side Economics
2. Union busting
3 Declining middle class benefits for healthcare, retirement
4. Decreased enforcement of labor laws
5 Shipping jobs overseas
All of those things were in place before Obama took office. Yet inequality is worse, not better, since he took over. How do you explain that>?
political inertia.

No, that explains many of your posts.

Let's see...

All those things were in place before Obama took office
Obama has been blocked from changing things
Inequality has gotten worse

Thanks Rabbi, guess you are right

What happened to his pen and his phone?
He sure used it for a lot of other issues, why not that one?
He could have shot down the PA as well and all he did was strengthen it.

How much of that money ended up in the hands of the poor? Or did it go to large construction companies who hired workers from outside the inner city?

How much of the money spent on education goes to inner city schools? What are the class to teacher ratios? How many inner city schools have textbooks for all their students? Athletic programs? Music and art programs- which are shown to enhance math skills and critical thinking

How many kids come to school well fed, well rested, ready to learn. How many have computers at home or parents capable of helping them with homework?

How was Obama blocked from changing things when Democrats controlled Congress until 2011?

So why do you think throwing more money will do anything?

Are we forgetting that pesky Republican filibuster again Rabbi? You know...the one where Republicans required 60 votes on every piece of legislation?
