Is the STEM shortage a manufactured crisis?

There is no massive overflow of STEM grads. Let's not forget a huge number of STEM grads go on to grad school or some professional schooling, med school, law school, MBAs and a lot of STEM grads get jobs outside of the sciences just based on what their degrees required. An advisor of mine pointed out that physics grads can get into the financial sector making upwards of 300k/yr on Wall Street if they have coursework in Partial Differential Equations. Hmmm 300k as entry level because I can do PDEs or 20k as a grad monkey...
