ISIS wants the attention and recruiting power from an act like this. If the wife or both had ties to ISIS then it given more news time and power to ISIS as a whole "look what we can do to the mighty USA"

Does not matter if it was a lone wolf, though that many pipe bombs and the extent they took to hide their activity would go to prove this was not a spur of the moment but had planning involved.

Ordered or not it seems ISIS was somehow the inspiration for their activity.

There's a distinct difference between "inspiring" and "being responsible for".

You can play semantics but for ISIS, it is a brownie point in the plus column. They don't have to give a specific order but have people training to carry out attacks anywhere any time. Tracing a trail becomes harder because there does not have to be any direct contact or orders to investigate. ISIS can be responsible for attack by those it has no connection to, but it is still done on behalf of ISIS, the caliphate and allah, in their mind. That much harder to prevent attacks.

The wife seems to have trained in yemen before her marriage. A wife leading is a new turn but not the first time husband and wife were partners in terror.

That's a tenuous connection with a lot of guesswork, and basically no different from Robert Dear wigging out on the Planned Parenthood blogosphere rhetoric. Same difference. You can't say one's responsible on the basis of influence, and yet the other one isn't.

I dont think so. I think they found out the couple had been in touch with ISIS supporters and decided to pretend like they planned it. Maybe if they had immediately claimed credit I would believe it. The fact that they waited to see what was up before making the claim proves they had no idea.

Pledge to ISIS before attack and ISIS claim boosts their Q rating in the terrorist/jihadi world and attracts recruits.
They don't have to "ordered" the attack but people want to be associated with them and vs when there is a kill.
