In my experience being chosen for anything can sometimes be a bad thing.

You're right. Sometimes being chosen for something CAN be a bad thing. Talk to just about any military person and they can tell you stories about how bad it can be. Myself? I've been "chosen" for several things, and I can tell you that being chosen isn't always a good thing. However, in the case of the Jews being God's chosen, it was actually a good thing and not a bad one. Interestingly enough, even though they were chosen, they still managed to piss God off, and He decided to withdraw Himself from them. Read the book of Judges sometime.

In my experience being chosen for anything can sometimes be a bad thing.

I think 'volunteering'for something might be worse.....I learned that in the military...never volunteer for anything.

I knew it before I showed up for duty. Had friends and family warn me. I learned to be ghost at a young age. In my final Cadre interview my drill Sergent. said ' Who the fuck are you? Abraham and his progeny were CHOSEN by God to be the vehicle to convey to ALL peoples the philosophy and theology of "ethical monotheism." The God of the Jews is the only deity that is above nature, that promulgates moral rules and principles that go beyond human logic, and who is responsive - at times - to human prayers. Even the Torah illustrates that the jews were not "chosen" because they were superior, morally upright, or particularly bright. Those who believe that are simply not familiar with the book(s).

You're right. Sometimes being chosen for something CAN be a bad thing. Talk to just about any military person and they can tell you stories about how bad it can be. Myself? I've been "chosen" for several things, and I can tell you that being chosen isn't always a good thing. However, in the case of the Jews being God's chosen, it was actually a good thing and not a bad one. Interestingly enough, even though they were chosen, they still managed to piss God off, and He decided to withdraw Himself from them. Read the book of Judges sometime.

Time and again they turned their backs on him....one reason they had to wander in the desert for 40yrs.

Might wanna read Exodus again. They didn't turn their backs on God at that time.
