Jesse Ventura wins $1.8million defamation

They can be thankful I was not on the jury I wouldn't have awarded Venture 1.8 cents for his reputation.

That is why people like you should never sit on a jury; you're incapable of being impartial. The question for the jury was not about Ventura's reputation but whether or not what was written in the book about him was true or not, and whether it caused him financial loss. It was obviously found by the jury that not only was Kyle's statement a lie, but it also caused Ventura financial harm. That is the way laws work in this country, or at least it is supposed to work that way.

Well Jesse doesn't seem to have any source of income so gotta make some bank somehow.
Why not go after the wife of a dead man...

He's a slimeball.

That dead man shouldn't have lied to promote his book. You take the side of the guy who lied? You must be of very low character.

Well, no, it wasn't clear he lied. He had witnesses that supported his version.

He just wasn't alive to fight the case in court.

Now that Jesse has gotten a judgement in his favor, he should do the decent thing and let this man's widow off the hook.

Considering it was printed in a book, it would be easy to know what a dead man thought..

Ventura's name was not printed in the book, if you had only read the article or the book.

He said in interviews that it was Jesse.

This was probably the key to Ventura winning the case. The book publisher had rejected using his name in the book. That rejection could not have gone unnoticed by the author. One can assume the author decided on his own to ignore legal advice or at least a legal opinion from his publishers to refrain from using Ventura's name.

It does not appear that the widow will be "on the hook" for the settlement. It looks more like the profits from the book will be reduced to an estimated 3 million instead of 5 million. In addition, a movie is coming out and the publicity obtained from this case will probably greatly increase her profits from that endeavor.

Off the hook?
$1.8 m from $6 m is hardly leaving the estate destitute. The govt. death tax will take care of that.
Mr. hide and shoot lied, printed the lies, repeated them on tv, and was brave enough to sucker punch a man who qualified for every senior discount out there and was so brave as to then cut and run.

Actually they didn't the decision is supposed to be unanimous it wasn't normally the case would have ended in a hung jury.

Yes it is clear he lied, the court just determined that. His witnesses were obviously not credible. We have kyles statement of what happened in the book. Kyles wife will still have millions, her husband should not have lied.

Minus attorney fees and other costs associated with clearing his name, I agree. I just don't see why he should be on the hook for any out-of-pocket expenses, since his hand was really forced in bringing the defamation suit in the first place.

Sucker punching a 60 year old man and running away will make him look like a real hero. Least it should get Jesse some more $$$.

Uh, there isn't a "Death Tax" anymore. Or even an estate tax.

More to the point, what you are claiming is that he DID punch Ventura. Ventura is claiming it never happened at all.
