Jewish Donors Warn Obama on Israel

By LAURA MECKLER
Jewish donors and fund-raisers are warning the Obama re-election campaign that the president is at risk of losing financial support because of concerns about his handling of Israel.

The complaints began early in President Barack Obama's term, centered on a perception that Mr. Obama has been too tough on Israel.

Some Jewish donors say Mr. Obama has pushed Israeli leaders too hard to halt construction of housing settlements in disputed territory, a longstanding element of U.S. policy. Some also worry that Mr. Obama is putting more pressure on the Israelis than the Palestinians to enter peace negotiations, and say they are disappointed Mr. Obama has not visited Israel yet.

One top Democratic fund-raiser, Miami developer Michael Adler, said he urged Obama campaign manager Jim Messina to be "extremely proactive" in countering the perception in the Jewish community that Mr. Obama is too critical of Israel.

Israel is an intrigal part of our strategic and yes, national security.
Obama is being foolish once again. He has interfered in the affairs of a soveriegn nation.
Obama and his people lack the understanding of one inescapable fact. That is, most of the Arab world refuses to recognize Israel's right to exist.
Should Israel surrender territories to pre-1967, Israel would be ,in the opinion of Israeli PM Netanyahu, "Indefensible".
I find it remarkable that no other Arab nation has extended a hand to the Palestinains and offered them a home in one of their countries. Nor do the rich Arab oil producing countries offer the Palestinians and financial assistance. Hmmmm.
I believe this is a result of racial or cultural bigotry on the part of Arabs toward Palestinians.

Arabs and Persians treat Palestinians like southern red necks treat blacks. The Palestinians are the N of the Arab world.
They do not want them. You hit it right on the nail.

How is the terrorist state of Israel vital to our national security?

Strategically, Israel has done zero for America.

In reality, Israel is the root cause of the U.S. problems in the ME

Again, Israel is not our 51st.

And we need to distance ourselves from this racist apartheid nation.

Chris Whitman, a US citizens studying at Hebrew University, was filming mass protests that take place every Friday in opposition to illegal Israeli land confiscations. Last Friday's demonstration were larger than normal due to annual remembrances of the 1948 Palestinian exodus, al Nakba.

"The 1948 Palestinian exodus (Arabic: الهجرة الفلسطينية*, al-Hijra al-Filasṭīnīya), also known as Nakba (Arabic: النكبة*, an-Nakbah), meaning the 'disaster', 'catastrophe', or "cataclysm",[1] occurred when approximately 725,000 Palestinian Arabs left, fled or were expelled from their homes, during the 1948 Arab-Israeli War and the Civil War that preceded it.[2]

"The exact number of actual refugees is a matter of dispute, depending upon the source. [3]

"Although some authors, such as Ilan Pappé, describe this exodus a forced deportation or ethnic cleansing,[4][3] others see it from a different perspective. Mark Tessler, in his History of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, says, 'The reasons for this mass exodus....were and to some extent remain the subject of fundamental disagreement between Arabs and Israelis.'

"He uses the words of UN mediator Bernadotte, who said that the Palestinians became refugees 'in response to 'the hazards and strategy of the armed conflict' swirling around them.'"[5]"

This so-called "Nakba" or "mass exodus" of 700,000 arabs which is falsely depicted as "ethnic cleansing" or with other derogatory propaganda terms today.....was simply the result of a year-long war between the Arabs and the Israelis....a war started by the Arabs....and won by the Israelis....

In 1947, the British government withdrew from the Mandate of Palestine, stating it was unable to arrive at a solution acceptable to both Arabs and Jews.[68] The newly created United Nations approved the Partition Plan for Palestine (United Nations General Assembly Resolution 181) on November 29, 1947, which sought to divide the country into two states—one Arab and one Jewish. Jerusalem was to be designated an international city—a corpus separatum—administered by the UN.[69]

The Jewish community accepted the plan,[70] but the Arab League and Arab Higher Committee rejected it.[71] On December 1, 1947, the Arab Higher Committee proclaimed a three-day strike, and Arab bands began attacking Jewish targets.[72] Jews were initially on the defensive as civil war broke out, but they gradually moved onto the offensive.[73] The Palestinian Arab economy collapsed and 250,000 Palestinian-Arabs fled or were expelled.[74]

On May 14, 1948, the day before the expiration of the British Mandate, the Jewish Agency proclaimed independence, naming the country Israel.[75] The following day, the armies of four Arab countries—Egypt, Syria, Lebanon and Iraq—attacked Israel, launching the 1948 Arab–Israeli War;[76][77] Saudi Arabia sent a military contingent to operate under Egyptian command; Yemen declared war but did not take military action.[78] After a year of fighting, a ceasefire was declared and temporary borders, known as the Green Line, were established.[79] Jordan annexed what became known as the West Bank and East Jerusalem, and Egypt took control of the Gaza Strip. About 700,000 Palestinian refugees were expelled or fled the country during the conflict.

Israel was accepted as a member of the United Nations by majority vote on May 11, 1949.[

Al Nakba was a culmination of a settler process whose original aim has not changed in over a hundred years, namely to transfer the indigenous Arabs of Palestine and replace them with Zionist Jews from other countries.

In December of 1947, Palestinians comprised two-thirds of the population (down from 90% at the beginning of the British Mandate in 1923)

"At the beginning of the cleansing operations, Palestinians (also) owned about 97% of the land. As a result of the ethnic cleansing operations, 531 Palestinian villages were erased; more than 86% of the indigenous Palestinian population was destroyed, expelled, or became displaced.

"Thus only 14-15% of the indigenous Palestinian population (about 130,000 * 150,000) remained in their homeland, while the rest became displaced and homeless refugees."

Khalil Nakhleh: Al Nakba of 1948

At the very least you should ask what moral authority the British or the UN had to impose a Jewish state upon a people that was two-thirds non-Jewish in 1947.

War's a bitch doncha know...

In your referenced article the guy is writing the typical sob story about the arab version of "al nakba"....he very conveniently danced around the most important fact....that of the Arab-Israeli WAR.....a civil WAR begun by the Arabs who chose physical conflict over settling matters peaceably around the establishment of two states recommended by the UN.....WAR always results in displacement and territorial control.....if you ask me someone who leaves out such a pertinent fact with regard to "al nakba" is not exactly an unbiased writer....and i would say that he's attempting to warp and rewrite history....

During the 1948 Palestine War, an estimated 700,000 Palestinians were expelled or fled, and hundreds of Palestinian villages were depopulated and destroyed.[2][3] The vast majority of Palestinian refugees, both those outside the 1949 armistice lines at the war's conclusion and those internally displaced, were barred by the newly declared state of Israel from returning to their homes or reclaiming their property.[2][3]

The 1948 Arab–Israeli War, known by Israelis as the War of Independence (Hebrew: מלחמת העצמאות or מלחמת הקוממיות*, Milkhemet Ha'atzma'ut or Milkhemet Hakomemmiyut) or War of Liberation (Hebrew: מלחמת השחרור*, Milkhemet Hashikhrur) – was the first in a series of wars fought between the State of Israel and its Arab neighbours in the long-running Arab-Israeli conflict.

The war commenced upon the termination of the British Mandate of Palestine and the Israeli declaration of independence on 15 May 1948, following a period of civil war in 1947–1948. The fighting took place mostly on the former territory of the British Mandate and for a short time also in the Sinai Peninsula and southern Lebanon.[11] Much of what Arabs refer to as The Catastrophe (Arabic: النكبة*, al-Nakba) occurred amidst this war.

I agree, Israel is responsible for killing more innocent people by far than the other side. But i don't think it's because the other side is morally better, they just aren't armed with our tax dollars and tax dollar paid for weapons.

No doubt.....just the way it was originally-designed.....

"The outbreak of World War I in 1914 and the Ottoman Empire’s alliance with Germany gave Britain and other imperial powers new opportunities to help themselves to the region’s riches. Britain and Russia reached a new agreement in 1915, dividing up Iran and Turkey. Britain and France likewise made plans to divvy up much of the Middle East between them once the war was won.

At the same time, Britain encouraged Arab revolts against the Ottoman Empire with the promise that victory would lead to a united Arab nation, reaching from the Red Sea to the Persian Gulf. And in November 1917, British Foreign Secretary Arthur Balfour wrote to the Zionist leader Lord Rothschild promising British government support for "the establishment in Palestine of a National Home for the Jewish People." (The Zionist movement, which originated in Europe, sought creation of a Jewish state.)

The British government had promised the same country to two nations.

At the war’s end, private interests hopeful of exploiting the region’s oil urged their governments to ignore war-time promises to Arab leaders. A variety of small, divided Arab states would be much easier to maneuver into oil deals than a large, independent Arab republic. The European powers agreed. France assumed control of Syria and Lebanon. Britain took Palestine and Mesopotamia. London granted local control to kings and sheiks favorable to British interests. These arrangements were ratified by the League of Nations; Britain’s Palestinian colony was officially a League "Mandate."

So that now the entire nation of Israel is mentally debilitated by the Stockholm Syndrome.
