Judge overseeing Trump classified documents case deals blows to special counsel Jack Smith

Correct, the right to a speedy trial belongs to the individual, trump, If he and his lawyers want to exercise that right they can, if they want more time to investigate the accusations and discovery produced by the Govt they should be allowed to. It a case in which the xiden admin took years to bring there are years worth of work to review.

It didn't.

Zedner v United States 2006
Terrible citation.

Zedner was about a defendant who waived his right to a speedy trial and then tried to have his case dismissed because he did not get his speedy trial. Nothing to do with any of the near-infinite Trump indictments.

It's not being rushed.
Nor should it be.
"They" have nothing to do with the proceedings or their scheduling.
No, but they talk endlessly about it.
"They" aren't involved.

Grifty is getting more time than defendant's facing far weightier consequences.

Is Grifty going to decide how much time he needs?
Data to show that Trump is getting more time than other defendants?

Or just making stuff up again?

It recognizes the fact that a speedy trial is in the interest in society as well as the individual.

Haha what? That case doesn’t say a defendant doesn’t have a right to a speedy trial

What the f are you talking about? Is reading comp that hard for you?

Moreover that case is about the speedy trial act, which is wasn’t addressing, and more over, it highlights that the defendant didn’t waive his right under the act! Haha

The vast majority of people facing felony counts in federal and state courts rely on public defenders.

They are processed through an overburdened system.

Donald Trump is facing an indulgent judge.

Sure, there is an interest in not allowing frivolous delays followed by insistence on dismissal.

The prosecution taking years to build a case with literally tens of millions of documents offered as discovery is not a friviolous reason to as for time to prepare.

He has a rare case in which the judge is going to protect his right to present a defense as strongly as the prosecution’s right to present its case.

That other defendants, not so wealthy and connected, are not afforded the same right to prepare is a problem with the system that should be addressed. The problem is not that Trump’s rights are being respected, it is that other’s rights are often not respected.

No...that's nonsense, as the Appellate Court taught Aileen the last time she tried to indulge him.

It’s says that speedy trials protect the defendant but also protect the public.

Unnecessary delays would impair the state’s ability to prosecute criminals.

The Speedy Trial act governs what delays Trump is allowed to be granted and which are going to be denied.

Time to prepare is one thing. Asking for a few years to prepare is unreasonable and would prejudice the case in his favor.

How long do you and The5thHorseman think is reasonable to prepare for a case that the prosecution has had a few years to prepare for and that involves literally tens of million of documents that the prosecution claims it will use to convict Trump?

You get a big team of lawyers and you figure out which documents are relevant and which aren’t.

The vast majority are irrelevant and will not have any bearing on the case whatsoever.
