London murders outnumber New York 2 months in a row...so it starts....

Good for New York

It’s strict gun control laws are working

Yeah well, London has stricter gun laws than New York.

Besides, I don't necessarily think New York's more modest murder rates has anything to do with gun control.

I happen to think a mix of stop, and frisk, tight policing, and that a lot of the "trash" have been weeded out of New York from gentrification, be it Black, White, or Puerto Rican.

The crime rate in New York went down because Rudy Guiliani actually focused on criminals...not law abiding citizens....but don't worry.....the democrat/socialist has decided that he wants more crime...so he is dropping all of the successful anti crime policies....

Don’t Take the Wrong Lessons from NYC’s Murder Drop

New York City’s formerly high-crime neighborhoods have experienced a stunning degree of gentrification over the last 15 years, thanks to the proactive-policing-induced conquest of crime. It is that gentrification which is now helping fuel the ongoing crime drop. Urban hipsters are flocking to areas that once were the purview of drug dealers and pimps, trailing in their wake legitimate commerce and street life, which further attracts law-abiding activity and residents in a virtuous cycle of increasing public safety.

The degree of demographic change is startling.

In Brooklyn’s Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood, for example, the number of white residents rose 1,235 percent from 2000 to 2015, while the black population decreased by 17 percent, reports City Lab.

In Bushwick, Brooklyn, the number of whites rose 610 percent over that same decade and a half; the black population was down 22 percent. Central Harlem’s white population rose 846 percent; the black share dropped 10 percent. In 2000, whites were about three-quarters of the black population in Brownsville-Ocean Hill; by 2015, there were twice as many whites as blacks.

In 2000, whites were one-third of the black population in Crown Heights North and Prospect Heights; now they exceed the black population by 20,000. The Brooklyn Navy Yards has now been declared the next cool place to be by the tech industry. Business owners are moving their residences as well as their enterprises to the area.

This demographic transformation has enormous implications for crime.

A black New Yorker is 50 times more likely to commit a shooting than a white New Yorker, according to perpetrator identifications provided to the police by witnesses to, and victims of, those shootings.

Those victims are overwhelmingly minority themselves.

When the racial balance of a neighborhood changes radically, given those crime disparities, its violent-crime rate will as well. (This racial crime disparity reflects the breakdown of the black family and the high percentage of black males — upwards of 80 percent in some neighborhoods — being raised by single mothers.)

----

The high-crime areas of Baltimore and Chicago have not been gentrified. Baltimore is experiencing its highest per capita murder rate for the third year in a row. While Chicago’s homicide numbers are down somewhat this year, thanks to the aggressive use of shot-spotter technology, they remain at a level far higher than in the past decade.

I totally agree, gentrification + policing are the main things that promoted New York as a "Model safe city".

Chicago's gun laws are almost as strict as New York, but it's in much worse shape merely because of less gentrification + less policing

And Baltimore's are stricter than both with a tiny population compared to those cities...and their murder rate is off the charts....also, notice Houston...gun stores on every corner, people can carry guns legally, easily, and they are on the border with the drug country of Mexico....unlike Baltimore..

Dude I love these threads... more than any other topic on the USMB.... really serves to highlight the inability of gun grabber progressives to connect the dots. Also serves to highlight how utterly dangerous these people are.... the thinking....Jesus.

Democrats tend to be very violent people and that is why Democrat cities are too dangerous for middle class people to live in.

And the levels of violence in London are going up and now their murder rates are going up...

Murders in London Overtake New York for First Time Since 1800 Under Sadiq Khan

London has overtaken New York City for number of murders for the first time in over 200 years under the mayoralty of Labour’sSadiq Khan.
Britain’s multicultural capital edged ahead of the American city — once so notorious for its high crime rates that it was chosen as the setting for Charles Bronson’s Death Wish –– in February, The Times reports.

London saw 15 killings to New York’s 14 over the course of the month, and appears to have outstripped ‘Gotham’ yet again in March, with 22 killings to 21.

Historically, London has had a murder rate per person between half and one-twentieth of New York’s since 1800, according to FBI data and studies by University of California researcher Eric Monkkonen.

Figures released last year showed London was already the more dangerous of the two cities for almost every other category of violent and sexual crime, with Londoners six times more likely to be burgled than New Yorkers, three times more likely to be raped, and one and a half times more victim to be robbed.
Breibart news, really? That's all you've got? A bunch of shithead liars?

Moron....they reported it from British sources......showing you have no clue what Breitbart is...but thanks....your stupid post helped me find some interesting stats......New York crime has decreased as more people own guns....London's crime has gone up after they banned guns....

London murder rate overtakes New York for first time ever

London's murder rate has overtaken New York City's for the first time ever, according to a new report.

February marked the first month the UK capital saw more murders than New York, with 15 dead (nine aged 30 or younger).

According to the report in the Sunday Times, London also suffered 22 fatal stabbings and shootings in March, higher than the 21 in the Big Apple.

Both cities have similarly sized populations of around 8.5m people. New York City's murder rate has decreased by around 87 per cent since the 1990s.

Meanwhile, London's has grown by nearly 40 per cent in just three years, not including deaths caused by terrorist attacks.

Not hardly.....Considering Britain banned and confiscated guns....and their gun crime rate is going up, not down.....23% across England and Wales last year, up 42% in London, and 30% in Yorkshire......if gun control can't work on an island nation that completely banned and confiscated all guns except for the hunting shotguns of the rich.......gun control ain't gonna work anywhere....

And the British gave up their guns on the promise it would make them safer.......it didn't....

Meanwhile, in the U.S.......we know that more guns = less gun crime...

We went from 200 million guns in private hands in the 1990s and 4.7 million people carrying guns for self defense in 1997...to close to 400-600 million guns in private hands and over 17 million people carrying guns for self defense in 2017...guess what happened...

Gun Homicide Rate Down 49% Since 1993 Peak; Public Unaware

Compared with 1993, the peak of U.S. gun homicides, the firearm homicide rate was 49% lower in 2010, and there were fewer deaths, even though the nation’s population grew. The victimization rate for other violent crimes with a firearm—assaults, robberies and sex crimes—was 75% lower in 2011 than in 1993. Violent non-fatal crime victimization overall (with or without a firearm) also is down markedly (72%) over two decades.

Culture of violence: Gun crime goes up by 89% in a decade | Daily Mail Online

The latest Government figures show that the total number of firearm offences in England and Wales has increased from 5,209 in 1998/99 to 9,865 last year - a rise of 89 per cent.

The number of people injured or killed by guns, excluding air weapons, has increased from 864 in 1998/99 to a provisional figure of 1,760 in 2008/09, an increase of 104 per cent .

Crime rise is biggest in a decade, ONS figures show

Ministers will also be concerned that the country is becoming increasingly violent in nature, with gun crime rising 23% to 6,375 offences, largely driven by an increase in the use of handguns.

Gun crime in London increases by 42% - BBC News

Gun crime offences in London surged by 42% in the last year, according to official statistics.

Violent crime on the rise in every corner of the country, figures suggest

But analysis of the figures force by force, showed the full extent of the problem, with only one constabulary, Nottinghamshire, recording a reduction in violent offences.

The vast majority of police forces actually witnessed double digit rises in violent crime, with Northumbria posting a 95 per cent increase year on year.

Of the other forces, Durham Police recorded a 73 per cent rise; West Yorkshire was up 48 per cent; Avon and Somerset 45 per cent; Dorset 39 per cent and Warwickshire 37 per cent.

Elsewhere Humberside, South Yorkshire, Staffordshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, Kent, Wiltshire and Dyfed Powys all saw violence rise by more than a quarter year on year.

London now more dangerous than New York City, crime stats suggest

While both London and New York have populations of around 8 million, figures suggest you are almost six times more likely to be burgled in the British capital than in the US city, and one and a half times more likely to fall victim to a robbery.

London has almost three times the number of reported rapes and while the murder rate in New York remains higher, the gap is narrowing dramatically.

Why does Lithuania have the lowest gun ownership rates in Europe, but in European proportionate totals Lithuania is #1 in suicide, and #2 in murder?

Lithuania's murder rate is about 30% than the U.S.A, and the White murder rate comparison of White America vs Lithuania puts Lithuania's murder rate as about 3 X higher than the U.S.A White murder rate.

El Paso, Texas has a lot of guns, but a low murder rate.

I mean it really supports that guns don't have much of anything to do with murder rate correlations.

Does it?

El Paso Texas has a low murder rate in the US, not compared to the rest of the first world.

El Paso's murder rate of 2.5 puts it ahead of every single first world country's murder rate, by quite a way too.

3 US cities over 250,000 people have a murder rate lower than the UK's murder rate.

Only three.

That's still a lower murder rate than New York, none the less.

Well, El Paso's a very heavily Hispanic city, it's close to gun free utopia Juarez, Mexico, one of the highest murder rate cities in the World.

So, actually it's pretty crazy that El Paso is so much lower in murder as it is.

Maybe, but there are lots of factors that can put gun crime up or down. It's not all about guns, however you put things into context and you see that guns can have a detrimental effect.

Without guns, and with a national govt that cares, then maybe El Paso's murder rate would be 0.5, who knows?

Murderers can use knives, and mass-murderers can use cars.

Besides, guns can be sold, and bought on the black market.

I've looked at charts of gun ownership vs murder rates, and I've point blank failed to see a correlation.

The assumptions of gun control (freaks) is that Europe has such a low murder rate, and so few guns.

Only on a worldwide scale is the former true, the fact of the matter is Europe has a high gun ownership rate by global standards.

The other assumptions of gun control (freaks) is that Americans are somehow the same as their European counterparts, the truth is no there is a lot of cultural, and racial differences present in the U.S.A, that are not found in Europe.

My impression is that both the "Brits" and "Blacks" in the U.S.A are much more aggressive than ones in the UK.

A lot of the Brits in the U.S.A were rugged frontiers people, in some cases like Georgia there were penal colonies of criminals.

Yes, this can happen, that can happen and yet the US still has a much higher murder rate and MOST murders are with guns, and the highest fatalities for cops on duty are guns too.

Yes, this can happen, that can happen and yet the US still has a much higher murder rate and MOST murders are with guns, and the highest fatalities for cops on duty are guns too.

Go figure.

You can "this can happen" all day and night, doesn't change the facts.

1.) Europe has a high rate of gun ownership on a global scale.

2.) Europe is nothing like the U.S.A.

3.) Very few, if any cities in Europe are majority non-White, the same can't be said about the U.S.A, where if anything the opposite holds true.

4.) Culturally Whites in the U.S.A, are not like their European counterparts, for example a lot of Americans are obviously much more aggressive frequently supporting wars, unlike most in Europe.

Good for New York

It’s strict gun control laws are working

-- gun murder down 49%

--gun crime down 75%

--violent crime down 72%

Gun Homicide Rate Down 49% Since 1993 Peak; Public Unaware

Compared with 1993, the peak of U.S. gun homicides, the firearm homicide rate was 49% lower in 2010, and there were fewer deaths, even though the nation’s population grew. The victimization rate for other violent crimes with a firearm—assaults, robberies and sex crimes—was 75% lower in 2011 than in 1993. Violent non-fatal crime victimization overall (with or without a firearm) also is down markedly (72%) over two decades.

Hurrah................................

#1 Ever been to Lithuania?

#2 see #1.
