A man went to Rabbi Hillel and asked him to teach him the entire torah while he stood on one foot.

Rabbi Hillel said "love your neighbor as you love yourself." Everything else, he said was explanations. Go and read the explainations.

He also said don't do on to others what you hate done on to you (paraphrase)

Ahhhhhhh, and to do that we must love ourselves first, for if we don't love ourselves we can't love our neighbor. Most people are filled with so much self loathing they can hardly stand to be in the room with themselves. Those people, I don't see loving their neighbor.

Republicans and conservatives. They have so much self love, there is no room for others to the point of sadism.

Project much?

Those are 2 of the 10 Commandments.

Actually, there are many more than just two.

As to the OP - those two "laws" or "rules" are a common thread in most religions, including my own. And, really, what else do we need?

Thanks for posting this.

I didn't see where he said "hate" but white hate blacks and other ethnic groups.

I believe there is a solid truth behind Santana's statement that 'those who forget history are doomed to repeat it'.

And though I'm plain old white bread (with some NA thrown in and watered down by time), I agree with him - I could never "love" or forget or forgive what has been done to that ethnic group as well as other ethnic groups throughout history. I really do hate what humans are capable of and what we have done to our fellow human beings.

I doubt most people are alive today when this occurred.

So who are you hating?

Neither is part of the 10 commandments....

English Standard Version

And God spoke all these words, saying,

I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.

1.

You shall have no other gods before me.

2.

You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. You shall not bow down to them or serve them, for I the Lord your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and the fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing steadfast love to thousands of those who love me and keep my commandments.

3.

You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes his name in vain.

4.

Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor, and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, you, or your son, or your daughter, your male servant, or your female servant, or your livestock, or the sojourner who is within your gates. For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.

5.

Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land that the Lord your God is giving you.

6.

You shall not murder.

7.

You shall not commit adultery.

8.

You shall not steal.

9.

You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.

10.

You shall not covet your neighbor's house; you shall not covet your neighbor's wife, or his male servant, or his female servant, or his ox, or his donkey, or anything that is your neighbor's.

You have to be able to forgive if you expect to be forgiven.
