Many hunters use AR15s...

Granted, but there has never been a case to my knowledge that an AR-15 has been used in self defense by a civilian. I have no problem with the police using them to save lives, either. But, to imply that I need an AR-15 for self defense is totally delusional.

Here's one.

Three armed criminals, home invasion

Must have been an invisible Ar-15. Probably a "cloaking device"

Three armed men vs one...I wouldn't want anything but an AR15. Wouldn't you?

And before you say "that's unlikely"...it's significantly more likely than the mass shooting you would use to justify banning it.

I live in Tucson, which is where the "home invasion" took place. It was a drug deal gone bad. If you are doing drug deals, then, I think that you can say that you need an AR-15 to ward off a home invasion. If you are not dealing drugs, I would say that the odds of you having a home invasion by three people are less than your odds of being hit by lightning, twice.

BTW...do you have a link to that I've only seen the video...never read the story.

2 killed in shooting were committing home invasion, Tucson police say

If the 15 is like the 16 then the bullet tumbles on impact tearing more of the edible part of the animal...
Tumble doesn't occur until about 750 yards, to my knowledge. The downside of the AR is that, at really close range, it goes through the animal without doing enough damage.

I keep hearing this talking point...AR15s aren't good for hunting. This talking point is patently false. It is advanced by people who know nothing about guns or hunting. AR15s are accurate, in a hunting caliber, easy to work on, and simple to customize. They will eventually supplant the bolt action rifle in the same way the bolt action rifle supplanted the lever action rifle and the lever action rifle supplanted the single shot.

What do you expect I saw a guy on CNN talking about being able to switch from semi-automatic firing to full semi-automatic firing really full semi-automatic and people wonder why gun owners don't trust or take the media serious on this issue.

I always preferred my 1918 9mm Mauser rifle for hunting...

Thanks, but are you sure that's the same one? It says midnight, but the video looks like it is daytime.

You can make any cal. perform how you want (within the constraints of its velocity) to do whatever you want... solid core fmj's zero expansion, partitions that fragment to varying degrees desired, hollow points to mushroom etc. etc. etc. doesn't have much to do with a particular type of gun... just velocity (powder and primer) and bullet design & mass...

Kind of cool... loaded a bunch of 30-06 for squirrel with some old load data I came across... less damage than a .22 rim fire, basically just a big hunk of lead hitting at low velocity much like a blunt arrow... An example of loading one cal. for everything from chick monk to Grizzly bear.

To would be laughed right out of our hunting cabin rail tucked....until you returned with an actual hunting rifle.
Lol
Top 10 AR-15 Rifles for the Money

I would take anyone of these over a bolt gun for hunting, of course that’s a personal thing.

You obviously don’t know jack shit about hunting
hope you aren't planning on using that in Nov. hunting season... even with an 80 grain A-max out of a 6 twist that AR-15 is a sheity deer rifle & illegal in most states as it is deemed less than humanely lethal for 100 pound whitetails....

I am not against people owning an AR....but for hunting there are an infinite number of better choices. What an ugly gun.
For elk or other non-varmint big game, I can't agree more. I especially like using the rifle's long range. I like to calculate bullet drop and wind. That's the true sport of hunting.

For shooting a bunch of pesky feral pigs for no other reason but to rid the earth of their filthy, crop-destroying asses, I love the AR.

But at least it's an assault weapon. It's the 8x64mm. I screwed up the description because for years I called it an 8mm because of the bullet size on the first number of recognition..Anyhow, my oldest son collects rifles from the past one hundred years also like I did....................he just has more Soviet era stuff...

And the 2nd doesn't specifically mention ANY guns by type or name so stfu

Your analogy is totally off.

A better analogy would be that the first Amendment protects free speech, EXCEPT certain types like yelling fire in a crowded theater. So the second Amendment covers the right to bear arms... but it doesn't cover ALL firearms.
Wouldn't it be more apt to say "but it doesn't cover aberrant usage of arms...shooting in town (pick your irresponsible usage)". It's a verb / action .... yelling fire... shooting inside building... etc. not a 'passive' thing such as ownership / possession (loose interpretation of "bearing arms".... IMHO

No because they are both items. The first Amendment allows for free speech, however there are some types of speech not included. It's not just about yelling fire in a crowded theater. You also can't threaten people like the President. So the Second Amendment protects the right to bear arms, but it doesn't cover all types of arms, and as I said earlier in the thread, that was even backed by Justice Scalia who was one of the greatest proponents of fire arm ownership to ever serve on the Supreme Court.
Still an overt "ACTION" not the mere 'existence of'...

The speech has to exist... you don't get thrown in jail for thoughts you don't share.
In socialism you do...

Oh, the S cartridge? You have a Mauser Gewehr 98. I though you were talking about the Mauser T-Gewehr 13mm anti-tank gun.
:lmao:

I like the Gewehr 98. Very good rifle and a better ballistics cartridge than the U.S. counterpart, the 30.06.

...though you were train hunting for a bit there.
:lol::beer:

I wish....I used to work on the TOW systems in the Army..I could handle deer hunting with one of those....Wouldn't need to worry about chasing them down or carving up the carcass...

Yes, and many people used cocaine for tooth aches when it was legal to do that.
It's not illegal to hunt with an AR.

I'm sure most gun nuts NEED 30 shots to kill a deer.
Do you NEED a fast gasoline car? Maybe they should pass a law saying you can only use a small electric car capped at 65 mph. You up for that?
