But since you raised the subject why not deal with reality?

Do you honestly expect to safely drive your own car if there is no money to maintain the roads?

If you have an accident because of unrepaired potholes where people are injured and/or killed won't you be the one "screeching for more money" to repair the roads?

So how is that any different to maintaining the railroads?

Infrastructure requires maintenance which costs money. Only a fool insists upon spending cuts and then whines when they have to repair their car after the wheels and suspension were damaged by potholes.

House Republicans voted Wednesday to chop about a fifth of Amtrak’s budget, less than a day after a deadly train crash that Democrats pointed to as a prime example of the dangers of shortchanging the nation’s transportation needs.

They also rebuffed Democrats’ attempts to provide money for an advanced speed-control technology that federal investigators later said would have prevented the crash.


“Based on what we know right now, we feel that had such a system been installed in this section of track, this accident would not have occurred,” National Transportation Safety Board member Robert Sumwalt told reporters Wednesday evening. from what i can find the system would cost 130K per mile, so for this stretch, say a million dollars...and they really couldn't afford it despite having over a billion dollars from the feds....that is no one's fault but amtrak's, blaming the gop is in poor taste...

their budget last year was over 2 billion dollars from what i've read....yeah...no money....
