Minimum wage was not designed to be for kids you moron. Minimum wage was first enacted to protect poor workers in 1938

And given that the minimum wage is actually worth less than it was 50 years ago when you factor in inflation, companies are actually affected LESS by it today than they were then.

This is called math. In 1968 the minimum wage was $1.60 an hour. Adjusted for inflation that's $11.68 an hour, which CLEARLY tells us that the minimum wage now costs far less than it did in 1968 which by the way was as boon year for most US companies.

The fact that you are too stupid to realize that the minimum wage is basically on a fulcrum and going too far one way or the other will cause the entire thing to fall is scary. This is a topic you are clearly not equipped to discuss.

This thread is addressed to supporters of minimum wage laws. Detractors claim that minimum wage causes unemployment and/or inflation. But most supporters will vigorously deny this. Yet they seem to set their sights pretty low when it comes to setting the level of minimum wage. I assume this is because they believe there is some downside to minimum wage, some reason to not raise it to $200/hr, but it seems they never want to talk about what that reason might be. Hopefully, someone will step up here, and clear the air.

Minimum wage question comes down first and foremost to the question of : IS IT FAIR?

I think about $10-11 national minimum wage is fair and from there individual states with high cost of living can go up to ~$15.

Less than that is exploitative to the workers and more than that is not fair to the employers and customers that have to absorb the cost.

In a perfect world one would believe that if the government taxed less companies would pass all that savings onto employees, but we don't live in a perfect world, and NO ONE honestly believes this is true.

The reality is companies like paying higher taxes which result in money for welfare to supplement their lowish wages in exchange for being able to pay lower wages.

Let's imagine a scenario where WM was told "okay no minimum wage law whatsover, but in exchange you simply have to assure that none of your employees qualify for welfare because of their wage, do you support that?"

They would NOT support that, because they have conspired with big government to pull the wool over your eyes, and you have fallen it for it.

Workers who make minimum wage or near it are cool for the most part because they are lazy, let's just be honest, and they are okay with not working very hard for low wages as long as they get welfare (and most of the welfare in this country does go to the "Working poor" ) employees love it because they get to pay lower wages and politicians love it because they can use the welfare to buy votes.

Normal every day Americans should see through the ruse and hate it and advocate making companies pay higher wages so that their workers don't qualify for welfare, and thus not only does that cut government spending, it also gets rid of politicians buying votes with welfare (or at least makes is less common)
