i was talking to my crew leader and he said some of the people he worked with in the last census were *questionable*. i think pixie just needed to vent about the experience and is also stressed due to her sister's illness. most of the people i've visited have been polite and some have been very nice. even a couple who said they'd already mailed it in cooperated and answered the questions. i've yet to have anyone tell me they flat out won't do it, and if they did, i'd just write it down and move on. it's been pretty much fun so far.

You probably missed it, but I made post on here about having to deal with a census worker who came to our door. We mailed ours in. It wasn't a big deal. We asked him to double check the paperwork and he figured out it was our downstairs neighbors (we share the same address) that he needed to talk to.
Pretty routine day-to-day stuff there. Not some big political event or conspiracy.
it really is pretty routine stuff. i spent about 45 minutes talking to an old timer who knew everybody in the neighborhood, their kids, hobbies, pets, you name it. it was really fun talking to the guy and he actually had some info i could use to complete a couple of questionnaires. i keep waiting to meet someone who's all upset about this, but mostly i'm finding absent minded people.
I gave the census worker that stopped by my house some cookies. And milk. He told me he was grateful because most of my neighbors sicced their dogs on him (my neighborhood is a little *ahem* uptight).do i get a cookie now?

I actually don't either, except for the fact that we are only getting one side of the story.

Why don't you comply with the standards of your profession? I mean, since it's a felony to stick your hands in other people's mail and some people make a habit of doing so to steal checks, it seems like a logical standard and I can't imagine it's a burden.

Of course it is. You have to put everything through that filter. Usually the more incredible the story, the more skewed it is by the one-sidedness.

yeah right...The OP was not a rail against the census, but more of a statement of opposition to in-your-face, rude, obnoxious assholes who were supposedly legitimately (could have been a scam) representing the US government...
I see no problem with the way she reacted to either some lowlife fucking scammer or someone who was NOT doing their job as instructed....

Dude, I was as shocked as anyone. How can a conservative...someone much more conservative then me...vote for a Democrat these days.
Well, the answer is simple. They don't pay attention and their family has always voted Democrat since there was Democrats. It's the South after all.
When you tell them about the Dems supporting homosexuality, illegal immigration, abortion, various other liberal issues....they just say "Well all of those Repugs are rich fuckers....and we hate rich fuckers".
