n korea thinks trump is bluffing

North Korea seem to know where they stand. They know they have the protection of China as long as they do not cause any problems for China's national security. So, no firing nukes at people, etc. But with nukes, they have less problems from the US, and China is slightly less of a problem too, defense wise.

No, this isn't about Trump looking in a bad light. Trump comes out of this looking bad because he thinks that he can solve this situation. Obama didn't think he could solve it, because he couldn't. Trump can't solve it but goes around trying to outsmart a guy whose politics are a lot more cutthroat than US politics, and Kim's been in the game longer.

If you think the left is annoying because it's all about making Trump look bad, think about it from the point of view of the left, with Trump always making HIMSELF look bad. He attacks, he fights when he should negotiate, he causes problems with people he should be working with, he insults people, then turns around and says they're all fucking amazing.

Push China to do it in lieu of a nuclear war on their border.
honestly i wish china would deal with it. i think they're more qualified to know the region and the mindset as well as deal with the aftermath of whatever may come out of it. i just have not seen much to ever make me think they care enough to want to. maybe trump is talking tough so china will see we *are* serious so they'll step it up and take care of it and we can all walk away from the edge quietly.
Agreed on China as the best solution. Yes, they do want to get involved, and are, but they are also afraid the entire DPRK government will collapse and they'll have to deal with 25,000,000 starving North Koreans fleeing north across the Yalu River. Either way, they have to do something before this gets out of hand. At the moment, I think Kim is 99% bullshit.

so far i think we agree on the hesitancy of china. other people don't seem to think the starving is a huge issue but if we just take out kim and have no plan to follow up - there will be incredible chaos i'd rather avoid also.

not sure what a good solution would be. keep north and south separate or make "korea" whole again or give the north to china and walk away.
Like Germany, I think reunification is good, but to appease China, we'd have to set up a timeline for withdrawal, at least everything north of Taegu.

You think we will take the military option? I have not heard anyone who is familiar with foreign and military policy think that is a good idea.
You would rather wait until the massive deaths of Alaskans and our major oil reserves are so contaminated we can't use them?
No. Apparently those who know what they're talking about would rather find another option. That is all I'm saying.
Is there another option though? I cant imagine that anything but war will stop NK from developing nuclear weapons.

he's not been paying attention has he?

and why would ANY country threaten to attack you only after you threaten to wipe them off the map a few hundred times? stunning the lengths some countries will go to in order to stop from being dime-store nuked.

Kim Jong-un claims US ‘bluffing’ over war threats
I think that he understands how politics is played in this country better than most do. He knows Trump can bluster, but for him to use one of our nuclear warheads, he'll need to go through the American people and Congress.

Give how pussified the left is in this regard, he knows that nothing short of setting off a nuke on our soil is going to get us all pulling in the same direction.

He is right. Trump is bluffing.

The US might want to talk S. Korea into digging enough bomb shelters to withstand a missile barrage from the north.

The only option I've heard that sounds possible is for China to take NK under its wing and under its nuclear umbrella. It worked with Ukraine and some other countries after the collapse of the USSR. I suppose it could happen again. It will have to include incentives, but they don't have to be from us. EVERYONE wants NK de-nuked. Of course, lifting sanctions alone would be an incentive for NK. The U.S., who NK hates, doesn't have to be the main negotiator. We will have to agree to stop saber rattling though. I think it's a fair swap.

China ordering "Fearless Leader" to have an "accident" would solve the problem.

That's fine with me. I've always thought most of us would live to see a nuclear weapon used against a city. A short nuclear war in Korea would have a cathartic effect on humanity, Maybe some good will come out of it.

I have some strong opinions about what's going on in the USA, because I can find out enough to have strong opinions.

That is not true on Foreign Affairs. None of us can ever know enough.

What I can tell about North Korea is this:

1) South Korea has by far the most interest in what happens in North Korea;

2) And, after that, Japan probably has the most.

The considerations of neither has ever been mentioned in this thread; but I noticed in the news this week that both countries have indicated they wanted to open negotiations with North Korea; and that has to carry some weight...because those two countries, mainly South Korea, are the two countries whose citizens will get blown up first.

They may be Pussies, but they must have a say, and who of us might not find out that we are Pussies too....if we lived in Seoul, which is 35 miles from many batteries of North Korean Rocket Launchers.

As many as 11 U. S Presidents have grappled with this situation and have thus been involved in Fucking it up to the point it is. There may be a 12th. We don't know yet, but at least he has the balls to recognize it is a problem rather than sweep it under the rug.

Would you rather have Hillary Clinton giving the Fat Goofy Fuck in North Korea a pretty Red Re-Set Button like she did Putin?

You think we will take the military option? I have not heard anyone who is familiar with foreign and military policy think that is a good idea.
You would rather wait until the massive deaths of Alaskans and our major oil reserves are so contaminated we can't use them?

If they actually thought that would happen they'd take appropriate action.

Presidents have wrestled with it, but the solution has changed over time. At first it was to avoid WWIII. Then it evolved to China's problem. China is their biggest supporter and trade partner. China has the most control and also the most to lose should North Korea start a war.

Chinese troops crossing the Yalu south during the Korean War. China doesn't want to see this reversed with starving, fleeing North Korean refugees.

so far i think we agree on the hesitancy of china. other people don't seem to think the starving is a huge issue but if we just take out kim and have no plan to follow up - there will be incredible chaos i'd rather avoid also.

not sure what a good solution would be. keep north and south separate or make "korea" whole again or give the north to china and walk away.

Or China's solution to the problem is "The US can fuck off".
