A drivers license is generally recognized as proper I.D. but the Social Security number is the national I.D. There are dozens of venues where someone would have to obtain a National license such as Military service or a FFA. I doubt if anyone except Socialists are contemplating a national I.D.

I don't think the Constitution is a good way to determine that - it's very broad, and not specific.

It could replace all the disparate id's we currently have with one...it doesn't have to be mandatory, it would just be needed to access services, vote, etc.

If I remember right, when Asscrotches Patriot Act took effect we were ALL supposed to have a national ID. I asked officials about that "for now your driver lic is your ID." How long ago was that?
