I am confused as to how you could think this, considering that the bulk of your post was spent outlining intra-racial tension amongst whites.

It seems to me that the tone now, as well as in generations past, has been to attack and intensely scrutinize every aspect of new groups of people. The people of every country have gone through a period of "new guy hazing" in the United States at various points in our history. The reluctance of many people to accept Hispanics into the country has, I think, been partially the documented/undocumented issue and partially the "what do we do with these people, they're weird" factor.
