Nevada should be commended for seeking to recognizing the civil rights of American citizens living in the state who happen to be gay.

Nevada's voters approved a state constitutional amendment by wide margins in back-to-back elections in 2000 and 2002 barring same-sex marriage, establishing that "only a marriage between a male and a female person shall be recognized and given effect."

Which the voters of Nevada had no authority to do. One’s civil liberties are not determined by ‘majority rule,’ and one does not forfeit his civil rights as a consequence of his state of residence.
