No One Has a Right to Health Care

No One Has a Right to Health Care
by Jacob G. Hornberger February 3, 2016

Democratic Presidential candidate Bernie Sanders says that everyone has a right to health care. Unfortunately, none of his presidential opponents, Democrat or Republican, is going to challenge him on the point. They’re too scared that they’d lose votes by challenging a standard socialist shibboleth in America.

Sanders’ assertion only goes to show how American socialists (i.e., progressives) have warped and perverted the concept of rights within the minds of the American people. The fact is that no one has a right to health care any more than he has a right to a home, a car, food, spouse, or anything else.

The correct concept of rights was enunciated by Thomas Jefferson in the Declaration of Independence, the document that Americans ironically celebrate every Fourth of July. Jefferson observed that people have been endowed with certain unalienable rights, among which are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

Oh!. You want a nation full of sick ppl. Your so ignorant of the facts you make me laugh. You are nothing but a tape recorder. Try doing some research on the cost of taxpayer moneys paid for ppl with no healthcare...the emergency room. But you believe that if you have no money you can just get sick and die right? Ill bet your go to church every sunday, huh?

No Shit!!

The Republicans would love something as simple as sacrificing the poorest people in the country. Like I just explained. The Republican mantra:

1) Don't Get Sick
2) If You Do Get Sick....Die Quickly
no, the republicans would rather see everyone in the country provide for themselves.
I dont think thats asking too much, do you?

That's great for the well to do selfish Republicans. What about most of the families in my state who have to make do on less than $40,000 a year? I just told you that my wife and I are on Medicare and have to pay an additional $6,000 a year for supplemental insurance. You people have no shame.

Like I said......the Republican mantra:

1) Don't Get Sick

2) If You Do Get Sick....Die Quickly
How about the people that are currently living right at the financial edge of their means that will be seriously impacted when they have to supply insurance for those that feel like they should have everything handed to them?
I guess I should sell my house and buy something cheaper? maybe give up a car? or, how about I just stop the family vacations or maybe eating. What is it that I have that I pay for that I dont deserve.

What you just said is right wing bullshit. Poor folks pay no taxes and barely make it from payday to payday.....'course you rich people don't have a clue about that.
and you leaches seem to think that because someone has a nice house and a nice car, they can afford to hand over a few thousand so you dont have to apply yourself.
Guess what? most of those people you think are just rolling in the cash are house poor.
paying for you could be the one thing that breaks them

I've always had a nice house and nice cars. I didn't realize that was some demonic act. If I were running the government:

1) Everyone would get a good education.....not just the wealthy
2) Everyone would have access to total health care and any family of four who earned less than $35,000 per anum would get it free. As their income increased they would pay a portion of the cost. Anyone who earned more than $1,000,000 per year would pay 75% of the excess in tax. If anyone had a problem with it we would arrange for their transportation to another country.

A right to healthcare would seem to improve life and pursuit of happiness. As they say "two out of three ain't bad".

Agreed.. that's why contrary to public opinion, we don't deny access to healthcare.

Like I have said more than a million times. healthcare can be affordable overnights.

Abolish healthcare regulations which have been in place since the mid 1800's, abolish medicare and medicaid

Who is unhappy with this increased knowledge? The American Medical Association, which for almost 150 years has sought to institutionalize a rip-off and to keep sick people and their families oblivious to it. Thanks to this central committee of the medical cartel, the number of medical schools and medical students is drastically restricted, state licensure further obstructs the supply of doctors, fees are largely secret and controlled across the industry, alternative treatments and practitioners are outlawed, pharmacists and nurses are hamstrung, and the mystique of the profession rivals the priesthood, although priests have a somewhat lower income. Meanwhile, the customer pays through the nose, even if he does not go to an otolaryngologist.

Should all veterans have health care?

Yes they should. Why would you ask that?
If no one has a right to health care, does that mean "no one" or actually some Americans do have a right? So if some Americans do have a right to health care then who decides and decides on what basis?

It's not a right, it's a benefit for joining our military to fight for our country. It's no different than retirement plans or healthcare after retirement if you worked for a company that had those provisions.

A right to healthcare would seem to improve life and pursuit of happiness. As they say "two out of three ain't bad".

Typical Republican bullshit! I've heard it for the last forty years. The bottom line is that those at the top want to be sure they keep their stuff so they do whatever is necessary to prevent change. The only change they like is tax cuts for the wealthy. I challenge you to make an honest evaluation of the Bush years.

George W. Bush assumed an economy with an unemployment rate of 4.3%. The budget was balanced with surpluses projected all the way to a completely paid off national debt. The first thing he did was to reduce tax rates for the wealthy in 2001 and again in 2003. Then he proceeded to double the national debt from $5.7 trillion to nearly $12 trillion. He effectively borrowed $6 trillion from foreign banks and funneled it into the pockets of the rich in the form of tax cuts. What a goddamned idiot!

I think you need a a better source to get your figures from:

$5 trillion added to national debt under Bush

How many Democrats have a family member on Obama Care?

My wife and I have been retired for 22 years. We're on Medicare and we pay close to $6,000 each year for supplemental insurance to be sure one life threatening illness doesn't bankrupt us. All the hell ObamaCare does is to guarantee poor people a chance at something besides the emergency room. The Republican mantra:

1) Don't Get Sick
2) If You Do Get Sick....Die Quickly
Na, not really.
Any type of mandatory insurance is legalized extortion, that simple.
It would have been soooo much better for everyone if obamacare was an opt in or opt out choice.

No Shit!!

The Republicans would love something as simple as sacrificing the poorest people in the country. Like I just explained. The Republican mantra:

Since the Republican tax cuts you people seem to be making out like bandits. I wouldn't really care if your own would go and help fight your wars. You declare them for political reasons and let the sons and daughters of others go fight and die.

The vast majority of military folk vote conservative you dolt... Lol

Sure they do.....they're ill educated and realize that even risking death it's the best deal they'll ever get. The elitist Republicans planned it that way. During Bush's wars Michael Moore questioned each of the 535 members of our house and senate. Guess What......not a one of them had a family member serving in a combat zone........DUUUUUHHHH

How many Democrats have a family member on Obama Care?

My wife and I have been retired for 22 years. We're on Medicare and we pay close to $6,000 each year for supplemental insurance to be sure one life threatening illness doesn't bankrupt us. We're the only one of the industrialized countries in the world who doesn't provide universal health care. We're also the only one of the industrialized countries who has a thousand insurance companies.

Not to worry.....now their big push is to privatize education.....they've already privatized prisons.

Sign of the times:

inequality-p25_averagehouseholdincom.png

Well we don't do everything other countries do. And if that's really the problem, then the solution is to move to one of those other countries since you have such a wide selection of choices.

Singapore stopped illegal drug usage there. If you are caught using or selling recreational narcotics, you are immediately executed. Do you think we should adopt such a policy for our drug problem in this country?

Should all veterans have health care?

Yes they should. Why would you ask that?
If no one has a right to health care, does that mean "no one" or actually some Americans do have a right? So if some Americans do have a right to health care then who decides and decides on what basis?
I think the ability to pay would be the deciding factor. Dont you?
So veterans should be required to pay for medical care if they have the ability to pay? What about those in the military that have the ability to pay and what about those that claim they do not have that ability to pay. And what of those in combat that do not have the ability to pay?
what does someone in the military have in common with waste of skin drug addicted ghetto dweller?

A right to healthcare would seem to improve life and pursuit of happiness. As they say "two out of three ain't bad".

Agreed.. that's why contrary to public opinion, we don't deny access to healthcare.

OMG! You are so ridiculously ignorant! What has ALREADY bankrupted the nation is giving corporate everything they want for 45 years.

Look at the good times. When I was a boy anyone who earned more than $300,000 per year paid 91% of the excess in tax. It's not the least bit difficult to see who changed the game and what the results have been. It's also easy to see what the results have been:

Wait a minute, Medicare is the utopia of government programs. What happened?

Medicare only covers 80% of hospital charges and pharmaceuticals are also left hanging out. Our $6,000 per year covers all the charges which aren't part of the package. We both retired with full coverage for the rest of our lives but two years ago a new company took the contract and immediately cut about half of our benefits. The $6,000 per year is what the new company cost us but we lost our dental and vision insurance completely. Doesn't make any difference that we had a combined company service of 84 years and that each springtime they passed out brochures which told us what our benefits would be. The new company made liars of them.

Should all veterans have health care?

Yes they should. Why would you ask that?

It's not a right, it's a benefit for joining our military to fight for our country. It's no different than retirement plans or healthcare after retirement if you worked for a company that had those provisions.

The real problem here is a lack of understanding of what it means to say something is a "right". I think a lot of people think rights are merely benefits provided by government. So when they say "healthcare should be a right", they're really just saying that we should use government to make sure everyone has healthcare.

So when they say "healthcare should be a right", they're really just saying that we should use government to make sure everyone has healthcare.

And isn't it a horrible thought that the wealthiest nation on the planet can't manage that. Maybe y'all need another unpaid-for war to take your mind off your troubles.

It is a sad thought that some people can't afford health care

Maybe y'all need another unpaid-for war to take your mind off your troubles.

Still trolling? You know damned well I'm opposed to our interventionist foreign policies. Back in the day, democrats used to agree with me. But that was before they were driving the war machine.

republican compassion....iraq...5000 dead and 30,000 maimed for life. People that send the poor and minorities to war for profit surly do not care if you feel well. I cant wait for the revolution. Eat the rich.

What you just said is right wing bullshit. Poor folks pay no taxes and barely make it from payday to payday.....'course you rich people don't have a clue about that.

You wouldn't have to arrange anything. They will be happy to leave all on their own as they have in the past.

...not if they had to pay terriffs.

And who do you suppose ultimately pays that tariff?

The exporter would be forced to pay. He'd have to dip into those record profits and pay like the working ppl have payed for the last 45 yrs. And u know what?! He would too! THIS is where the cocksuckers sell their junk...WE buy that shit! Oh yeah, they'll pay.
