Talk about waste and it's not long before the "United Nations" comes up. Here is a perfect example of the uselessness of said body.....

1. "On October 1, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu delivered WHAT WAS PROBABLY THE MOST POWERFUL SPEECH EVER HEARD IN THE UNITED NATIONS. It was a dire warning of the clear and immediate dangers posed by Iran. He said Iran’s new president, Hasan Rouhani, is fooling the world with soft words—while fanatically working behind the scenes to obtain the nuclear bomb.

2. .... Netanyahu urged the world to not be fooled by Rouhani. In his public addresses, Rouhani mentions the “human tragedy in Syria”—but, as Netanyahu pointed out, Iran is one of the biggest supporters of Syrian President Bashar Assad!

3. Netanyahu put forward some tough questions for those who believe that Iran only wants to build nuclear power plants:

a. “Why would a country that claims to only want peaceful nuclear energy … build hidden underground enrichment facilities?

b. Why would a country with vast natural energy reserves invest billions in developing nuclear energy?

c. Why would a country intent on merely civilian nuclear programs continue to defy multiple Security Council resolutions and incur the tremendous cost of crippling sanctions on its economy?

d. AND WHY WOULD A COUNTRY WITH A PEACEFUL NUCLEAR PROGRAM DEVELOP INTERCONTINENTAL BALLISTIC MISSILES, WHOSE SOLE PURPOSE IS TO DELIVER NUCLEAR WARHEADS?”

4. .... a lot of UN representatives walked out!

5. Mr. Netanyahu warned that Iran obtaining the nuclear bomb “would trigger nuclear proliferation throughout the Middle East, turning the most unstable part of the planet into a nuclear tinderbox.”

And....in a related story:

6. "Saudi nuclear weapons 'on order' from Pakistan

7. Saudi Arabia has invested in Pakistani nuclear weapons projects, and believes it could obtain atomic bombs at will, a variety of sources have told BBC Newsnight. While the kingdom's quest has often been set in the context of countering Iran's atomic programme, it is now possible that the Saudis might be able to deploy such devices more quickly than the Islamic republic.

8. Earlier this year, a senior Nato decision maker told me that he had seen intelligence reporting that nuclear weapons made in Pakistan on behalf of Saudi Arabia are now sitting ready for delivery.

9. Last month Amos Yadlin, a former head of Israeli military intelligence, told a conference in Sweden that if Iran got the bomb, "the Saudis will not wait one month. They already paid for the bomb, they will go to Pakistan and bring what they need to bring." BBC News - Saudi nuclear weapons 'on order' from Pakistan

10. And the why and wherefore that explains all of the above?
"This latest volte-face by the president is evidence of a man who is completely overmatched by events, weak and confused, and deeply ambivalent about using force." Barack Obama?s Staggering Incompetence « Commentary Magazine

A monumental incompetence matched only by those who voted for him.

And again....what was it that the Right warned about Obama?

"...a man who is completely overmatched by events, weak and confused, and deeply ambivalent...."

He put forth a lot of conjecture, but no evidence they've weaponized their program.

I'm more concerned about Israel's nukes, than I am Iran's alleged nukes.

"I'm more concerned about Israel's nukes, than I am Iran's alleged nukes."

Pretty much a priori evidence of a mental condition.....

...and/or proof that you are as dumb as asphalt.

Iran led by a blood cult that wishes to wipe out all opposition....and has so behaved....

...versus a Western democracy that has had said weapons and not used them, even in self defense and at the cost of it's own citizens.

Paul Berman, in "Terror and Liberalism," chapter six, anticipated the rabid beast kind of post that you have submitted:

"It became necessary, then, to move to an angrier trope: Israel, a Nazi entity, so devoted to evil that suicide murder becomes an understandable reaction. Of course, one must overlook the fact that Arab nationalism favored Nazism well into the ‘60’s.

a. It was even more difficult to see the Israelis as Nazis given the relatively civilized military tactics of house-to-house fighting, in Jenin in 2002, for example, which cost 23 Israeli lives, vs. 52 Palestinians.
(Second Intifada - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia).

Certainly not a Russian-style Grozny battle. “The 1999–2000 battle of Grozny was the siege and assault of the Chechen capital Grozny by Russian forces, lasting from late 1999 to early 2000. The siege and fighting left the capital devastated. In 2003 the United Nations called Grozny the most destroyed city on Earth.” http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Grozny_(1999–2000)

b. And, with the alacrity of a firehouse dog responding to a bell, there were folks all around the world leaping to conflate Jenin and Auschwitz, and the like. I just tried the terms together and got 17,500 hits on google. How difficult to believe that a rational logic governs the world."

"How difficult to believe that a rational logic governs the world."

Did he predict your post...or what.
Moron.

Why would a country that claims to only want peaceful nuclear energy … build hidden underground enrichment facilities?
The Negev Nuclear Research Center (Hebrew: קריה למחקר גרעיני – נגב*) is an Israeli nuclear installation located in the Negev desert, about thirteen kilometers to the south-east of the city of Dimona. The purpose of Dimona is widely assumed to be the manufacturing of nuclear weapons. Israel acknowledges the existence of the site, but refuses to either confirm or deny its suspected purpose in a policy known as nuclear ambiguity. Information about the facility remains highly classified.

Shouldn't that be a good question to ask Israel about 'Dimona' which is the hidden underground Israeli nuclear facility in the Negev desert?? .

1. No....because the reality is one nation is surrounded by enemies sworn to destroy them, and the other, Iran, a brutal regime let loose rivers of blood in their attempt to purify humankind. Even better, the victory in Iran emboldened Islamic fanatics worldwide.

a. The Ayatollah Khomeini incorporated the Marxist paradigm of a world divided into oppressors and oppressed, but made it Islamic by using the terms ‘mostakbirine’ (the arrognant) and ‘mostadafine’ (the weakened).
"United in Hate: The Left's Romance with Tyranny and Terror" by Jamie Glazov

2. “We should by now have become used to the death cult that is thriving at the fringes of the Muslim world. This is the cult of people who are proud to declare, "You love life, but we love death." This is the cult that sent waves of defenseless children to be mowed down on the battlefields of the Iran-Iraq war, that trains kindergartners to become bombs, that fetishizes death, that sends people off joyfully to commit mass murder. Because the death cult is not really about the cause it purports to serve. It's about the sheer pleasure of killing and dying.” http://www.nytimes.com/2004/09/07/opinion/07brooks.html

3. When the Iranian revolution came to power, with the help of Democratic President Jimmy Carter, the Ayatollah Khomeini killed more human beings (about twenty thousand) in two weeks than had been killed by the Shah during his entire thirty-eight years. Khomeini followed this by sending hundreds of thousands of Iranians to die in the Iran-Iraq war, as martyrdom was needed to resurrect the Islamic Empire.
Paul Berman, “Terror and Liberalism,” p. 108
Again, irrigating the earth with human blood.

a. Outlined by Dr. Hans-Peter Raddatz, Orientalist, and frequent critic of Islam, this blood-lust was the explanation of Iran’s demand for a truce, when it was learned that Iraq planned to kill the waves of Iranians with Tabun and Sarin nerve gas, which would not cause blood to flow.
Glazov, “United in Hate,” p. 107-108.

So....in whose hands would you rather see nuclear weapons?

Pakistan has proven that a Muslim nation with a nuke is not a country hell bent on the spread of Islam by force.
Iran has had more than enough time to develop nukes, yet they have not.

What a stupid statement.......

Iran was on the ropes and fighting for it's life.

Patriotic Iranian citizens were giving their lives in order to defend their country from being invaded by the brutal Iraqi army.

And had zero to do with building a so called 'Islamic Empire'........

Wrong.

The maniac assumed power in 1979.

"Shortly after assuming power, Khomeini began calling for Islamic revolutions across the Muslim world, including Iran's Arab neighbor Iraq, the one large state besides Iran with a Shia majority population."
1980 April 8 – Broadcast call by Khomeini for the pious of Iraq to overthrow Saddam Hussein and his regime. Al-Dawa al-Islamiya party in Iraqi is the hoped for catalyst to start rebellion. From: Mackey, The Iranians, (1996), p.317

Being one whose creed is based on veracity and rectitude, I'm always astounded when I come across folks like you who haven't a clue about the views they express....and, seemingly, couldn't care less how wrong they are.

Have you ever considered adding self-respect to your repertoire?

"The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) released a report to its Board of Governors this week detailing its findings on Iran’s nuclear program over the last three months. It is clear that the program is steadily progressing. Next week the board will convene in the shadow of the Iranian presidential election to decide how to respond.

In a Q&A, Mark Hibbs explains that Iran’s strategy of negotiating to buy time while continuing unabated with technology development and deployment has been successful."

Saddam was gassing and murdering the Shia with impunity in Iraq.......remember??

He never invaded Iraq, but called on the people of Iraq to overthrow Saddam. .

I expect leaders of one nation to either live in peace with neighboring nations....or to bring legal pressure.
Isn't that what you'd expect?

Not encouraging assassination of the other nation's leader.

1. "...the Ba’ath Party of Iraq is a secular party. It believes in the separation of state and religion.

So the Shiite Muslims in Iran, led by the Ayatollah Khomeini, wanted a Muslim religious state like Khomeini brought to Iran. In fact, Khomeini wanted an Islamic republic composed of all of the Islamic states and eventually a world government.

But to have that, Khomeini needed to conquer not only Iraq but also Mecca and Medina which are sites in Saudi Arabia that are holy to all Muslims—both Shiites and Sunnis. He had to go through Iraq, which is the only Arab country with a land border with Saudi Arabia. So Khomeini was calling on the radio for the Shiite soldiers in Iraq to defect and assassinate Saddam. The Shiites are more than 50 percent of the Islamic population in Iraq. There were assassination attempts.

Saddam believed that even though Iran had more than three times the manpower of Iraq and far greater strategic depth, he figured he could do a preemptive strike against Iran, since there were sanctions on Iran and the country couldn’t get spare parts."

2. For international context.....recall the 'Zimmermann Telegram.'

"The Zimmermann Telegram (or Zimmermann Note) was a 1917 diplomatic proposal from the German Empire for Mexico to join the Central Powers, in the event of the United States entering World War I on the side of the Entente Powers. The proposal was intercepted and decoded by British intelligence. Revelation of the contents outraged American public opinion and helped generate support for the United States declaration of war on Germany in April of that year."

Pretty much what happened to precipitate the Iran-Iraq War.

"Both Israel and the U.S. wanted Iran attacked and the Ayatollah driven from power."
Jimmy Carter put him in power.

You can change the subject, as long as we stipulate that Khomeini was driven by desire to dominate the region and the world, and had no compunction as to the mass slaughter of opponents and even of his own people.

We may or may not agree as to his rationale.....but we sure won't agree on his rectitude.

Sunni Girl, are you ignorant or what? You know, that Iran's first move would be to use it's nuke to make Mecca and Medina fall under Shi'ite (aka "apostates of Islam") control, right? What kind of idiot Sunni Muslim are you? :cuckoo:
