Well, lets look at the numbers. There are about 115.5 million households in the US. 23 million of those households get SNAP benefits. 40% of the 23 million households getting SNAP benefits are white. Or about 9.2 million households.

In general whites make up about 62% of households. So of the 115.5 they make up 72 million of them. 9.2 million of that 72 million white households are receiving SNAP. Or about 12.5% of white households. About 1 in 8.

I wouldn't consider 1 in 8 to be a 'tiny percentage'.
