Obama Extending Broadband Internet Access to Public Housing Residents

What a disaster this is going to turn out to be. It's not like these folks are going to get secured lines. It will be like the access you get in a coffee shop.

I don't why the rest of us bothers working and struggles to pay for our own shit. FIRST; OscamCare now Obamanet. he's just so generous. probably have a sign on it that's says: vote Democrat

(CNSNews.com) - The information superhighway is heading straight into taxpayer-subsidized housing.

The Department of Housing and Urban Development on Wednesday announced an initiative to extend affordable broadband access to families living in HUD-assisted housing.

The project, launching in 27 cities and one tribal nation, is called ConnectHome. (President Obama planned to discuss ConnectHome later Wednesday at the Choctaw Indian reservation in Oklahoma.)

Internet Service Providers, non-profits and the private sector will arrange broadband access as well as technical training, digital literacy programs, and devices for residents in public housing units.

LOL, you know you don't work for a living. All you gotta do is sell your trailer and move to public housing!

Sounds like the rich really don't want the poor having any opportunities at all. The internet is a way of, you know, learning stuff, applying for jobs and all sorts of things. Now, if you don't want them to do these sorts of things, you should just say so.

Actually no, they have done this in Savannah, Ga already.

Used tax monies and private sector monies to establish a Wi-fi corridor in the downtown area that also encompasses several low income housing projects.

The actual pay rates are a joke and equate to about $1 / hr. The free access last for 2 hrs. / day.

The gateway for log on is private sector controlled and with a username and password you get the same high encryption signal as a private router.

Trust me, you no pay, you no get no free service over 2 hrs / day.

Internet is a luxury.

Luxuries are earned not mandated.

No, poor people are useful. They work in McDonalds, they clean toilets, they clean the streets, empty bins, deliver stuff, you know, all the stinky rubbish jobs.

What kind of third world country do YOU live in?

In fact in every third world country I've been in, internet has also been available. Not necessarily to the poorer people, but it's been there. In the west the internet is seen as something normal now.
People getting on the streets in Europe will have internet.

one of the comments with the article:

If they cannot afford to pay rent, how can they afford computers, smart phones, smart tv's and paying for the internet access?

Us the tax payers.

Us the insurance payers.

In our city once a year all our libraries liquidate their computers to low income families for a mere $100.

If not they go out and steal em, all those nifty electronic devices make great e-bay / street deal inventory.

Yeah but those aren't the ones sitting on their asses in their zero rent housing.

While it sounds good in theory (like most of 0's plans), I'm fairly certain the people that aren't beneficiaries of this program will end up paying for it (once again, like most of 0's plans).
Like others have said, the companies that are involved in this don't do anything for free. They might say that they are, for the good PR that such actions generate, but the funds required to provide this service have to come from somewhere. It's not going to come from their profits and it's certainly not going to come from a reduction of stockholder dividends.
While it's possible that these companies will claim this perceived "loss" as a charitable contribution tax write-off, I feel that it's more likely that they'll just spread the costs (plus a little more, just to be sure) across all of their paying customers. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if they did both.

I think they'd like them to riot.

As the internet keeps people occupied, helps the economy, and keeps people engaged with their communities.

Which is apparently awful because it is a private-public partnership program: Connect Home Pilot

Fucking Obama

Welfare people should get dial up Internet

You discuss normal and luxury like they are synonymous .............

Even your ignorant ass comments about not to the poorer people.

A luxury would be something a person wants that is not mandatory to maintain life.

For many yrs. people got along without the internet.

Internet service that workers / those with money can afford but those lazy fucks who don't work / have money, can't would be considered a luxury.

Now normal never entered into that discussion.

If you can't hang with that you go on the ignore list.

Surely you are not as stupid as you are acting.

You can't underestimate these bots. It's impossible.

Well, that sort of thing happens because the US isn't very proactive.

In Europe there are poor people, but the ghettos that exist in the US hardly exist in Europe. The worst city I went to was Bucharest. It's kind of like a nice version of a largish US city.

They have a line .......

How dare you DENY INTERNET ACCESS to these poor ignorant masses.

They have the dreaded PORN ADDICTION, failure to see porn within a 24 hr period will result in death.

How can you let them DI3, give them internet to feed the porn addiction.

You have no compassion for dying porn addicts.

You're using attacks and insults as an argument!

Shows what you've got. I don't need to talk to people like you.
