Obama....'recess appointments'...and GOP tactics

"In the history of the United States,168 presidential nominees have been filibustered, 82 blocked under President Obama, 86blocked under all the other presidents."

Harry Reid says 82 presidential nominees have been blocked under President Barack Obama 86 blocked under all other presidents PolitiFact

I would say that is unprecidented obstruction.

Love it Hutch

Shows republicans block Obama at all costs
Yes at all costs. That's why they were elected.

You don't expect to pass a Republican agenda....only block Obama
We can't pass a Republican agenda with Asshat in the big chair.

Of course you can
it has been done for 200 years

All it takes is something called bipartisanship. Give a little to get a little. Find a middle ground

On another thread, some of our "sweethearts" of the right wing mindset reminded us that Obama has been "slapped down" 12 or 13 times by the Supreme Court for overstepping his executive authority and had basically "broken: the law.......

However, one particular rejection caught my eye.....the one about RECESS APPOINTMENTS........That one was interesting because I had read that Obama was particularly angered by this related SC decision and that the Court had actually gone along with the Republican senate shameless practices and tactics.

The current guidelines state that a president can make an appointment during congressional recess periods IF congress is in recess for MORE than 3 days...and, Obama DID follow the "letter" of that guideline........However, read what the "clever" republicans did to thwart his efforts.....

Since May 2011, Republicans have been relying on a little-known procedure to keep the Senate in session, even when it was not really conducting any business, in order to stop the President from making those recess appointments. The legal basis comes from a 1993 Department of Justice brief saying the president should act only if the Senate is in official recess more than three days.

So, party leaders have arranged for a single Republican lawmaker to show up every three days and gavel the Senate to order, wait around for about 30 seconds, gavel it to a close, then leave.

YOU JUDGE the ethics of the republican senate......
Tissue?
Democrats used the same tactic on Bush. You reap what you sow, motherfucker.

What has Harry Reid given?
Nothing. Zero. Zilch. My way or the highway.

What has Obama given?

Extended the Bush tax cuts
Increased the threshold from $250,000 to $400,000
Provided tax cuts for 40% of the stimulus

Look Republicans ........you have been able to stop some of what Obama is trying to do at the cost of gaining nothing that Republicans want to do

They could have gotten Keystone if they weren't such dicks about it

None of those were GOP demands.
Fail.

They were negotiated in Comittee.

Republicans still have nothing to show for the last six years

Bipartisanship would have gotten them some of their agenda. As it is ....they got nothing

Want to go over what Obama got in the last six years?

Democrats shut the GOP out of every negotiation. "Fuckk 'em, we've got the votes." Who said that?

Republicans were begged to participate in the drafting of Obamacare
Obama offered .....tell me what you want in the bill so you could vote for it and Republicans responded ....tear it up and start over

In the GOP debates, republicans were asked if they would accept nine dollars in spending cuts for one dollar in tax increase.....Not one said yes

Holder went out of his way to accuse every white person of being a bigot. We've had our fill of that crap.

The race card isn't working anymore, asshole.

......and THEN, this idiot has the stupidity to begin his post with "I'm not a bigot".......(I just play one on this forum).....LOL

How is anything I said bigoted? Pointing out that Holder is a race baiting asshole is not bigotry, you fucking moron.

Basically, what right wingers have done (especially regarding this issue) is yet ANOTHER government shutdown......they are "smart" enough to have learned that instead of actually putting up barriers at government facilities, they've opted to do NOTHING........show up to work, go to fancy DC restaurants, get bribed by lobbyists, get a fat paycheck, and just sit down and sip......tea. They won't vote "NO" on Obama's nominees......they just won't even vote......they are in recess in spirit.

Of course, idiots on these forums "approve" of their conduct because their hatred of Obama trumps common sense.

We'll see if saner voters will approve of these tactics when during campaigns, republicans will be asked, "WHAT DID YOU ACCOMPLISH FOR US AMERICANS?".....and they proudly answer, "NOTHING."

Do you even live in the same reality as the rest of us?

Democrats spent 4 years doing......NOTHING.....they refused to bring anything to a vote. Since the Republicans have been in charge, bills have once again begun to move through the Congress.

It does NOT MATTER if you disagree with the content of the bills. They are still being written an voted on. A thousand percent better than when Democrats held the Senate.

BTW.....the SCOTUS, which gets many things wrong, managed to get this one right. The Congress was NOT in recess.

Obama, or any President, is NOT entitled to just have their nominations rubber stamped.

Here's why you're wrong (and dense)......I, for one, are NOT asking for republicans to rubber stamp anyone....... Instead, I ask for them to have the balls to vote "NO".......have it on record that they voted "NO".........You are being fooled (because of ultra partisanship) by these elected right wingers who actually fear that voting "NO" will be on record and come next election they will have to defend why they were so much against nominees who were (many of them) minorities,

Can Republican revisionist history get any more bizarre?

Republicans block legislation in the Senate with just 45 votes, yet expect their legislation to fly through with 55 votes against

The Supreme Court got it wrong. Congress should be considered in recess if they lack a quorum

One Senator banging a gavel does not make a session

[QUOTE="nat4900, post: 11066857, member: 53797"Obama could nominate Mother Theresa and tea party scum buckets would STILL refuse to approve her appointment.......Why?[/QUOTE]

Lack of qualifications would be a start.

Congress should have thirty days to approve or disapprove an appointment. After thirty days the appointment becomes official without Congress whether they are in session or not

Feel free to write your Congressperson and request that they propose such a constitutional amendment.
