Obama's Involvement In Bin Laden Takedown Was Simply A Nod

Being in the military sometimes suck under any administration. I joined during Ford, got out under Carter, reuped under Reagan and retired under Clinton. Perhaps you're forgetting the disappointment involved with Democrat Administrations. I remember it clearly.

The Repugs built us up and the Dems tore us down. It's a constant neverending cycle.

Carter downsized because of the end of the VietNam war
Clinton downsized because of the end of the Cold War

What would a Republican President have done?

Not downsize.

There are plenty of people out there that want to kill us. Everytime we downsize, we find ourselves pushing for enlistment within a few years.

Downsizing is met with lots of political rhetoric...and it kills the morale of the military.

So here we are again....looking ot "lay off" troops as they return from ToD's......

I wonder how easy it will be to "recruit" when Iran takes action.

"fight for your country. Risk your life. Watch your wingmen make the ultimate sacrifice.....and come home to a pink slip."

The size of the military is based on it's current mission and it's current threat, When Viet Nam ended, the militarys mission had been reduced. When the Cold War ended the threat had been reduced

Change his clothes?

Well...you have never put on a G-suit before...thats for sure.

Waited a day? So you can complain that he interferred with the loved ones who were there to hug their husbands and wives?

Yeah...I guess he could have.

You can tell when you are debating non military. They have no idea what an honor it is for the CiC to meet you on YOUR turf.

And an FYI....A CV group is a family....and they consider the flat top as an island...and the escorts as barrier islands...it is their own little world and very few visitors are allowed....but when the CiC...or an Admiral ask for permission to come aboard?

It is one fucking big deal to them.

Yet folks like you tend to want to make it political and take the thrill away.

Whatever.

I miss the military. Leaving was my biggest mistake....

Here is a rational question concerning our military spending. Do you believe it is necessary for the US to spend almost as much as the entire rest of the world on military expenditures, or does that seem a bit excessive?

It is worse than that. When you look at the fact that we spend more than the next ten nations combined you have to consider that eight of those nations are our allies

I have no problem giving Obama his just credit for allowing Bin Laden to be taken out. I also give him credit for the current mess in the Middle East. The Islamic fundamentalists are now in charge of most countries there. Good job Obama.

If you're going to blame any US Government official, it would be the President. That being said, for what specifically? Iran? It was the same as when he took office. Syria? What do you think he should do? Egypt? Again, what do you think he should do? Lybia? I doubt Moahmar (sp?) was a lot better or worse than whatever eventually shakes out.

Thanks for having a level headed approach to giving the President credit for the Bin Laden raid. Tell Mudwhistle that.

Actually Vel and I are thinking the same thing. I'm just taking it further and providing evidence to refute your bogus hyperbole on Obama's great victory. He's been bullshitting his way through this from the beginning. He is ill-prepared for a real war and wouldn't know what to do if one dropped in his lap as evidenced by his Afghanistan fuckups.

A president should be compitent and not always make political decisions. This mission was one he did regardless of his misgivings, but I contend he had very little choice. Failure to do so would have ruined his reelection chances. He had no choíce on this one.....but he was fully prepared to point fingers should the opportunity present itself.

Tell me I'm wrong. I dare you.

It seems that wingnuts have much greater fear of the unknown and require much greater security. Hence, out rediculously bloated military. If not for wingnut fear, America would be a much better place.

Pretty much what George H W Bush did. Close bases and try to improve efficency.

Carter gutted the miltary, so did Clinton, and so is Obama.

If you had a natural disaster affect your home and your insurance covered it....would you then reduce your insurance?

The military is inusrance....and as we have seen...every time we reduce it we need to reinforce it again

Tell me I'm wrong. I dare you.

He had numerous choices.

He could have waited until he had confirmation that the person of interest was Bin Laden
He could have ordered a Predator Strike
He could have informed Pakistan of the impending operation
He could have done like Bush and declared bin Laden to be no big deal

His face would have been on Mount Rushmore. Look at the treatment Reagan gets from the right.

He was an unmitigated disaster as a President.

Reagan was a fantastic President; was precisely the right man at the right time.
Ronald Reagan was a murdering.....

....son-of-a-bitch!!!!

"In the late 1970s, when Carter's human rights coordinator, Pat Derian, criticized the Argentine military for its "dirty war" -- tens of thousands of "disappearances," tortures and murders -- then-political commentator Reagan joshed that she should "walk a mile in the moccasins" of the Argentine generals before criticizing them.

Despite his aw shucks style, Reagan found virtually every anticommunist action justified, no matter how brutal. From his eight years in the White House, there is no historical indication that he was troubled by the bloodbath and even genocide that occurred in Central America during his presidency, while he was shipping hundreds of millions of dollars in military aid to the implicated forces."

I don't understand all this "credit" that Obama deserves.
What was to be decided, whether to drop a missile on his ass
or to send ground forces.
This was a no brainer.
Once Bin Laden was found what choice was there to make.
Any President would have done this.

Clinton didn't. Bush didn't.

No

If you move to the desert you do not keep your flood insurance....that is threat

If your kids move out of the house, you can get a smaller house....that is mission

You build the military you need based on existing threat and existing mission. When either changes significantly, you change your force structure

The taxpayers deserve it

Trusting the Pakistanis was not an option. Bush tried that in Tora Bora and look what it got him.

Obama has increased the Military budget

Carter and Clinton downsized the military because of the end of wars. Obama should do the same when we are out of Iraq and Afghanistan

Text Of Bush Speech - CBS News

Full text of the Bush speech. For some reason at no point does he acknowledge the crew of the Lincoln or congratulate them for accomplishing their mission.

The banner was produced by the White House and put up by White House personnel. It was also strategically placed behind the President when he announced that major combat operations had ceased and that the Allies had prevailed

Historical note.....it took Obama to finally end Bushs war

There was absolutely no hesitation to take credit by the Bush WH for the Mission Accomplished sign until it blew up in their faces, then suddenly it was "oh, it means the ship's mission...besides, they put the sign up"....of course that proved to be a lie.

So I assume you do not see what is happening overseas as a concern.

We live in a dangerous world and there are a lot of people hell bent on destroying us.

You have your opinion, I have mine.

I I will always find a way to feed my family......if someone wants to attack our homeland, I will need the military. I can not defend my family by myself.

And you cannot defend your family if you are half a world away sticking your nose in someone else's family's business, can you?
