Insulin therapy is a common treatment for people with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes, but insulin prices have skyrocketed in the last several years. Diabetes Management's digital edition reports that the cost of insulin has increased from $100 to $200 per month to $400 to $500 per month, depending on the brand.

The added stress of the shutdown and no pay has made her sugar level go to 600+, which is dangerously high.
Emotional stress (fear, anxiety, anger, excitement, tension) and physiological stress cause the body to secrete stress hormones into the bloodstream. ... For people with diabetes, stress can cause a significant and prolonged increase in the blood sugar level.
