banning discussions...really.....i dont agree with banning the discussion of any subject.....how absolutely unamerican

Well I support banning the public discussion of certain things. Bomb making springs instantly to mind. :) Just watched "The Manhatten Project" (John Lithgow, 1986) the other day. And I like to think someone from DoE and the military asked to watch it before they released it so they weren't showing anything legit or too much. :)

not me.....i am against banning discussions of ideas ....bomb making.....easy....anarchist bookcook or the net....or if you are really a nitwit....and cannot figure out explosives put detonator equal blast

Bloom County comic had a funny if worrisome bit where Oliver Wendel Jones builds a nuke for school science contest. Teacher says, "Cograts on your nuclear bomb model." To which Oliver responds, "It's no model, it works." - "Really? And where did you get the nuclear material?" - "I scraped the luminous stuff off 6700 old glow in the dark watch hands." - "Oh...Ok children fire drill!" :)

you do know that is based on a true story.....the kid figures out you can get a very small amount of radioactive material from old batteries....

avid Charles Hahn (born October 30, 1976), also called the "Radioactive Boy Scout" or the "Nuclear Boy Scout", is an American who attempted to build a homemade breedernuclear reactor in 1994, at age 17. A Scout in the Boy Scouts of America, Hahn conducted his experiments in secret in a backyard shed at his mother's house in Clinton Township, Michigan. While his reactor never reached critical mass, Hahn attracted the attention of local police when he was stopped on another matter and they found material in his vehicle that troubled them and he warned that it was radioactive. His mother's property was cleaned up by the Environmental Protection Agency ten months later as aSuperfund cleanup site. Hahn attained Eagle Scout rank shortly after his lab was dismantled.[1]

That's disturbing. Are many radioactive elements fairly easy to aquire. While most wont result in chain reactions and nuclear detonations, they're could still make for a radiological device.

Is a website I saw in the background on Fox News that monitors breaking news worldwide for certain types of stories including CBNR incidents. Radioactive material is comprised all the time it sems. Mostly low-grade medical stuff or surveyor's equipment, but still makes ya wonder.

MIT engineering grad students showed a classified Congressional hearing how easy it is to build a crude atomic bomb. Like three-quarters of them succeeded in building one but for lack of fissile material.

"Petition to BAN any discussion of Child Porn"

Where are there examples of 'child porn' being discussed on USMB, save for this thread?

Is it such a rampant problem that a petition must be made to compel the board administration to 'ban' something that board members aren't participating in to begin with?

And per post #22, discussing 'child porn' is already prohibited by board rules as “advocating for illegal behavior,” rendering such a 'petition' a solution in search of a problem.

if that were true d4...there were be no arab springs or any other revolutions....

Notice how despite many working there, and undoubtedly all ofthem receiving offers of lots of money to disclose what they know, no one who works at Area 51 blabs. While some would likely be willing to risk their freedom or life doing so, I think the implied threat goes beyond their own life.

I thought of that also, I'm all for free speech, yet, I let my emotion get the best of my on this particular topic

I don't see the need to discuss it - it's just wrong, gross and illegal.
not much more to say about it - but, I could be wrong... maybe there IS more to say....

that is normal.....hell i cant even think about eating a sub from subway

and it does seem like its everywhere but wouldnt a discussion of child sexuality in the united states be more valid?

This is a private message board, not a government entity – 'free speech' doesn't come into play in any regard.

You're at liberty to call for the banning of whatever you want, where such advocacy in no way 'violates' free speech.

At issue only are the merits of such a 'ban' given it's currently prohibited anyway.

Well if we can figure out why some develop such attractions maybe we can prevent it. Imprisoning people after they offend results in victims. Preventing people from offending in the first place avoids victims. Only way to do that though is figure out why some develop the attraction.
