That was a pandemic emergency.

Taxpayers should not have to pay so young people can study useless degrees and have a four-year party.

I have read on several occasions, so I expect it is true, that most colleges will accept anyone with tuition money and a high school degree. Someone who goes to a school like that and gets a degree in the social sciences or liberal arts has probably wasted time and money.

On the other hand, someone who is admitted to MIT, and who gets a degree in computer technology or engineering will be able to pay off a student loan.

There are countries, including I believe Cuba, where the government finances college education to the doctorate level. However, at each step of the way one needs to pass examinations, and to have performed well at previous steps.
