We do our social programs as cheaply and efficiently as possible. We don't add extra layers of administration, or programs that shouldn't exist in the first place. We make the employers pay their workers a living wage. That way we don't have to pay government workers to figure out how much assistance they qualify for, and other government workers to pay them that assistance.

Part of what taxpayers pay for is food relief should they become unemployed and the elderly who paid taxes for years as hard workers. The vast majority of people receiving food stamps DO have jobs. Some of them, more than one. But when fast food "managers" making under $25,000 per year have to work 60 hour weeks without getting overtime (just one of the Obama regulations that Trump cancelled), it leaves precious little time for that second job, now doesn't it?
