Or someone who purchases her own coverage may wonder whether she will be eligible for broader benefits when new insurance marketplaces open next fall. Within two years, my guess is my company will drop insurance and give us cash instead. At that point I'll probably go without insurance paying the fine till I need an expensive procedure. I never paid a dime in life insurance either, saved up my own nest egg. I bet on myself instead. Why pay for something you don't need rather than creating a nest egg that earns enough interest, on it's own, to pay for everything you might need?

The topic is not what ACA requires. It is the context within which President Obama said people who like their insurance can keep it.
Obamacare allowed exactly that by grandfathering existing policies if the companies offering them did not change them.
