Preperation for a big one

Solar flare is nothing. Overdue for the magnetic poles to flip again, and when they do everything electrical will be fried and weather Al Gore only dreams of will occur.
LOL Now that is about the dumbest thing I have ever seen posted. Just why would that happen? The poles have regularly flipped in geologic history and there has never any detectable affect on flora or fauna.

DO TELL! It's been 780,000 years since the last one, how many plants and animals did die then?

Total moron.

Depends on who you ask.
Some say it'll be catastrophic while others say it will have little impact.

Everything electrical would be fried. Even hardened military electronics.

Silly ass. EMP, Electromagnetic Pulse. The flipping of the poles would not create an EMP. A solar flare, or thermonuclear burst high up, would.

(PhysOrg.com) -- The Earth's magnetic poles flip around every 200,000 years or so, with north becoming south and vice versa. Normally, the process takes 4-5,000 years and it ought to be impossible for the flip to be much faster, if models of the Earth's core are correct, but now for the second time evidence has been found of a flip that appears to have taken only a few years.

White House is preparing for catastrophic solar flares which could wipe out power around the world for months - bringing an end to modern civilization as we know it
  • Massive electromagnetic pulse caused by solar flares could bring an end to modern civilization as we know it
  • Extreme space weather event could wipe out power for months and render cellphones and internet useless
  • One study estimates that in the U.S. alone it could cost the fragile economy up to $2.6 trillion
  • Now the White House are preparing for the threat after a major solar flare narrowly missed the Earth in 2012
  • Strategy includes improving prediction abilities as forecasters only have been 15-60 minutes warning and how to protect energy grids

Far more likely than an asteroid impact.

Does this mean my wife and children will start talking to me and actually look at me when we are eating together?

NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

From my link..... 2013, yup no money to be made from it, instead the boogeyman AGW is the top priority......

President Bill Clinton’s former Director of Central Intelligence, James Woolsey, led a panel earlier this week on the threat of a natural or nuclear EMP.

Experts have also recently demanded that Washington prepare the nation's electric grid for an EMP.

It goes back farther then Obama, they have had an EMP commison since Bush Jr. and has been warning about it since 2004.

The Electromagnetic Pulse Commission Warns of an Old Threat with a New Face

I skimmed through this article and I want to know how the electrical grid could be knocked out if it takes Thousands of years for the earth to flip.( It doesn't say why)

Forget global warming, it’s the MAGNETOSPHERE we need to worry about

Since geomagnetic reversal takes a number of thousands of years.

.

We are all going to die!!

No really.

I just read the report, yup our government is stupid once again. back in the late 80's a solar flare knocks out the Canadian sea board (electrical grid) and no where in this hearing does it mention anything about solar flares. Just a threat on the grid by a nuke.

Report of the Commission to Assess the Threat to the United States from Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP) Attack

Since the Cold War, however, several trends have forced us to think about EMP in a new way. The proliferation of nuclear weapons and the rise of new nuclear powers with small nuclear arsenals have forced us to think about EMP as an asymmetric threat in its own right. At the same time, our economy is increasingly dependent on the electronic systems vulnerable to electromagnetic pulse.

We heard a lot about this problem in the 1990's, but nobody had a good handle on it. So this committee took the lead in creating a national commission to look into the problem. We are here today to review its findings and recommendations.

Snip

The EMP has been the focus of significant government funded research and testing for over 30 years. However, most of these efforts were conducted during the Cold War and focused on hardening strategic systems against a massive nuclear attack from the Soviet Union. Far fewer resources have been dedicated to examining the potential vulnerability of the United States civilian and industrial infrastructure to an EMP attack.

I raised this issue with the electric and utility industry and also with the Homeland Security Agency during a hearing there, and they really were not even aware of what the possibilities and what the threats were.

Again, what makes you say that? And why would they be fried? Have you any idea of how long it takes to do that flip?

Go look up EMP and stop exposing your ignorance.

Okay

An electromagnetic pulse (EMP), also sometimes called a transient electromagnetic disturbance, is a short burst of electromagnetic energy. Such a pulse's origination may be a natural occurrence or man-made and can occur as a radiated, electric or magnetic field or a conducted electric current, depending on the source. The term "electromagnetic pulse" is commonly abbreviated EMP (which is pronounced by saying the letters separately, "E-M-P").

EMP interference is generally disruptive or damaging to electronic equipment, and at higher energy levels a powerful EMP event such as a lightning strike can damage physical objects such as buildings and aircraft structures. The management of EMP effects is an important branch of electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) engineering.

The damaging effects of high-energy EMP have been used to create EMP weapons. These are typically divided into nuclear and non-nuclear devices. Such weapons, both real and fictional, have become known to the public by means of popular culture.

A geomagnetic reversal is a change in a planet's magnetic field such that the positions of magnetic north and magnetic south are interchanged. The Earth's field has alternated between periods of normal polarity, in which the direction of the field was the same as the present direction, and reverse polarity, in which the field was the opposite. These periods are called chrons. The time spans of chrons are randomly distributed with most being between 0.1 and 1million years with an average of 450,000 years. Most reversals are estimated to take between 1,000 and 10,000 years. The latest one, the Brunhes–Matuyama reversal, occurred 780,000 years ago; and may have happened very quickly, within a human lifetime.[1] A brief complete reversal, known as the Laschamp event, occurred only 41,000 years ago during the last glacial period. That reversal lasted only about 440 years with the actual change of polarity lasting around 250 years. During this change the strength of the magnetic field dropped to 5% of its present strength.[2] Brief disruptions that do not result in reversal are called geomagnetic excursions.

Not what you'd really call a "pulse"

An EMP has nothing to do with the reversal of the poles.
Another Leftard scientist. Yeah, magnetic fields have nothing to do with electricity.
