Had Republicans taken control of the both the House and Senate with commanding majorities, they could claim that the midterms were a ‘referendum’ on President Biden and that the voters rejected Biden and the policies of Democrats.

Given this year’s election results, however, clearly that’s not the case – Republicans won’t be able to lie and engage in partisan rhetoric about the people having rejected the President and Democrats; indeed, the 2022 midterm disaster for the GOP has weakened Republicans going into 2024.
