Preventing the spread of Fake News and Misinformation

I know my wifes health issues and her doctor advised her to get it. I am in agreement for once, as I generally dislike medication of any kind.

My advice to others is basically. "you should get the vaccine if you want to decrease risk of serious damage if you catch it or, simply for peace of mind".

What I find peculiar is allowing ALL who are vaccinnated to conjur together. I might argue that being unvaccinated but cautious in how you interact with others is better than putting yourself in a tight crowd simply due to you being vaccinated.
According to one of the OP's "trusted sites" over 80% of Americans, 16 or older, have some covid immunity due to antibodies. According to another of the OP's "trusted sources," the CDC, that means that, as a country, we have reached herd immunity and the vaccine should be unnecessary. It is all political bullshit.

We've all seen it on USMB and elsewhere, fake news and misinformation on just about every major topic of public interest, global warming, elections, covid-19, foreign policy, domestic policy, legislation, crime, etc..... When we see posts that are filled with false information that is contrary to, trusted news services, science, trusted leaders, and often just plain common sense, we feel obliged to prove the poster is wrong. Generally speaking this not the best way to stop the spread of misinformation. It actually increases it. It is exactly what the poster wants, an invitation to provide more misinformation in support of his augment. When we play this game with the poster we become part of the problem, not the solution.

Fake news is bad for democracy — and in a pandemic, it may be a matter of life or death.

Fake news is bad, but there is only one thing worse than fake news, which is censorship.
All the philosophers in all of history will tell you that the only way for truth to win out over lies is to prevent censorship.
Only in the open market of ALL views, can truth ever win out.
And truth will always win out if allowed.

True – and the kids on the right are the primary purveyors of fake news, misinformation, and lies.
It is not just Republicans or just Democrats, but rather, people who are—left or right—more ideologically extreme

So when Governor Newsome and Nancy Piglosi told US that masks should be worn and social distance of 6ft was required, was that False Information?

I mean come on man, they can do what the fuck ever they want, but demand that you comply to their will...Yea, progressives are that stupid.

Misinformation is the major obstacle in winning the battle in both the US and many other countries. However, there are other reasons which are as silly as being afraid of the needle. 5% of Americans say they will not seek any medical attention except in life or death emergency. 26% of Americans suffer from a mental disorder and 5% are seriously mentally ill. 45% of Americans adults do not get vaccinated against the flu or other diseases. When you put all of the above together and add in the misinformation, there's going to have to be very strong incentives to get vaccinated which may from come from employers, retail merchants, restaurants, and sports and entertainment venues. In other words, get vaccinated or stay home because there is no place for you in society. With the Mu deviant on the horizon, it may come to this.

Sorry, but you are just lacking in information.
The main rise in disease is from autoimmune responses from out own over active immune system.
So more vaccination are NOT the solution, and are causing many of the problems.
Lupus, arthritis, diabetes, HIV, autism, covid-19, and many fatal or debilitating illnesses are actually autoimmune diseases, even if initiated by something else,

Vaccinations have been very useful, but they are no panacea for everything, and have negative aspects that are starting to become worse than what they are supposed to fix.
Why have vaccinations become so much more problematic?
Because we do way too many, way too quickly, and there are way to many things like pesticides and hormones in our food that trigger autoimmune responses.
We now vaccinate for about 40 different things, but when do we reach a limit?
What unpredictable things will happen if we start vaccinating for thousands of different things?
A some point the odds are we will sensitize our immune system so much that everyone will die of some inappropriate auto immune response.

It has been a matter of life and death, has been and is ongoing. People are dying because they think the Covid vaccine is somehow harmful. But, the rest of the world is not responsible for fools acting out their foolishness.

It is not "somehow harmful", but absolutely easily proven that these mRNA vaccines are very harmful.
They are not really vaccines because vaccines have whole viruses in them, so the immune system can decide and learn how to react in the future.
These mRNA vaccines only have spike proteins, which are dangerous because they are so much smaller that then can migrate and cause the immune system to attack very sensitive places.
And since our own body normally also builds spike proteins, it is very risky to sensitize our immune system to spike proteins.

Preventing the spread of Fake News and Misinformation
This can’t be accomplished, of course – nor should it.

Conservatives are at liberty to propagate their fake news, misinformation, and lies.

Government should certainly not take action, that would violate the First Amendment.

The only way to address rightwing fake news, misinformation, and lies is to respond with facts and the truth and let the people decide.

Although there’s merit to the argument that rightwing fake news, misinformation, and lies should be ignored, doing so would not advance facts and the truth.

The best approach is to respond to rightwing fake news, misinformation, and lies with facts and the truth and move on, to not fuel rightwing fake news, misinformation, and lies with ongoing and pointless engagement.

No one said just Republicans – again, conservatives are the primary purveyors of fake news, misinformation, and lies.

Indeed, rightwing websites such as Breitbart and Epoch Times – among scores of others – are dedicated to only spreading rightwing fake news, misinformation, and lies.

True – and the kids on the right are the primary purveyors of fake news, misinformation, and lies.

Wrong.
It is equal left and right.
Look at Vietnam, the WMD lies about Iraq, the War on Drugs, mandated sentences, asset forfeiture laws, etc.
Neither party is good or can be trusted.
It is getting harder and harder to vote.
I am down to the Socialists and Green Party as the only ones left.
And they are not very good choices either.

Like this "fake" information from the CDC and your left wing CNN? Like that. Puhleeeese.

I don't see why anyone would consider you an authority or consent to a vax because you say so. You do you and let them do them. People need to quit trying run other people's lives.
Yeah, I was just thinking about what would have happened if my husband had demanded I do anything I did not already decide, on my own, to do. Funny picture.

I understand what you're saying and agreed with it most of my life.

I want to agree with it now but the lies are getting people killed. It's keeping a virus alive to mutate into new and more lethal variants. It's causing people to ingest chemicals that harm and in some cases, kill them.

I think there should be a limit to the ability of people to be able to lie through their teeth.

If only you were the censor, then all would be well. Just like in Orwell’s wonderful utopia.

Who decides what is and isn't fake news? You?
