Puerto Rico's new governor promises referendum on statehood

We can let-in, whomever-the-hell we want to, and keep-out, whomever-the-hell we want to...

It's our country, and we can do what-the-phukk we want with it...

Including determine who gets to be a State and who does not...

Are we stronger WITH Puerto Rico or WITHOUT them?

That's the test...

If the answer is WITH, and they want in, then, let 'em in, and get this over with...

If the answer is WITHOUT, then come up with a plan and timeline to cut 'em loose, in the most congenial manner possible without harming our interests, and get this over with.

In the 1860's when the Chinese sought equality and wanted to work in California's gold mines the congress suddenly determined that there was an emergency and for the first time ever concluded that they had the right to interdict, detain and deport. A racist SCOTUS ruled that the federal government had the authority

CHAE CHAN PING v. UNITED STATES.

And so it goes.

Keep in mind that well over 200,000 Puerto Ricans have risked their lives in warfare fighting for the United States in the last century. More than several states.

Puerto Rico's new gov promises immediate push for statehood

Hope this goes no where....time to cut Puerto Rico loose...no way in hell do we need MORE non white democrats voting in our elections.
You might want to do your research. Territories like Puerto Rico can't vote in the presidential election, only local elections.
I know. My point is IF they are given statehood then they CAN vote in Presidential elections.

Partially correct

Puerto Ricans can vote immediately after becoming a resident of any state.

As residents of South Carolina we were proud to have cast our votes for DJT.

We are second or third class citizens , but have done a great job defending the nation

The 65th Infantry Regiment, nicknamed "The Borinqueneers"[1] from the original Taíno name of the island (Borinquen), is a Puerto Rican regiment of the United States Army. The regiment's motto is Honor et Fidelitas, Latin for Honor and Fidelity. The Army Appropriation Bill created by an act of Congress on 2 March 1898, authorized the creation of the first body of native troops in Puerto Rico.

But we understand that we do not have the right to be equals. And that when we demand equality that we can be kicked out.

What in the name of little green onions does that have to do with the topic at-hand, or my post? I really and truly don't see your connection or your point.

So?

The same can be said of Filipinos.

That did not stop them from breaking away, nor us consenting to that breaking away, did it?

If they want in, they can have it.

If they don't want in, cut 'em loose.

Nothing whatsoever wrong with that.

If they want in, let 'em in.

If they don't want in, cut 'em loose.

Simple.

Cut Puerto Rico loose. It's only a drain on US resources. It shouldn't even be a US Territory anymore. At one point, they howled for full independence. But then they went broke again, and demanded a Bailout. And guess what, our corrupt asshole politicians gave it to em. Just cut it loose immediately. There's nothing to gain by continuing to support it.

I agree.

Cut all the territories loose. Most of them don't want to be a State because if they were they have to pay taxes.

Right now they get all the rights of a state except the right to vote and they don't pay a dime for any of it.

That's okay they pay way more than that in taxes. And don't get much in return at all.

Not in Puerto Rico

Puerto Rico is a U.S. territory, but its residents do not pay the federal income tax, except on income from sources outside of Puerto Rico. The New York Times reports that taxpayers need only live in Puerto Rico for 183 days out of the year on the island to be a resident.

Not in the others either.

Why des Puerto Rico get to decide if Puerto Rico becomes a state? Shouldn't the American people vote to decide that? Did I miss that?
