Putin, massive strike against Saudia Arabia if West attacks syria.

Just click the link for source under the article on eutimes, you'll get a nice laugh, it links to some doomsday site with ridiculous far-fetched fear mongering crap.

How exactly does Russia do a "massive strike" on Saudi Arabia? Their military is a watered down version of the Soviet era one from the cold war, it was designed for three things: invade Europe, sink ships, and be a nuclear deterrent. When was the last time Russia went to war with anyone that they couldn't walk to from their border?

What are they going to nuke Saudi Arabia? Launch cruise missiles? They have some outstanding modern cruise missiles but they are almost all designed to sink ships, they haven't spent a lot on weapons like tomahawks that are designed for strikes over land. Are they going to bomb them with their 40 year old bombers that haven't had the money for modernization like their US counterparts and were built to sink US carriers, not strike land targets? The Saudi Air Force is very modern flying F-15s, Tornados, and Typhoons, is Russia going to load up some unguided bombs on their old bombers and send them on a 2000 mile suicide mission hoping to land some lucky bombs on something important. Are they going to walk across Iraq to lob artillery?

This is just stupid, both from a military perspective and common sense perspective. Putin isn't ordering anyone to attack Saudi Arabia.
China has all that including MYOB bombs designed to sink aircraft carriers.

"However, one question that has so far remained unanswered, and a very sensitive one now that the US is on the verge of voting to arm the Syrian rebels, is who was arming said group of Al-Qaeda supported militants up until now.

"Now, finally, courtesy of the FT we have the (less than surprising) answer, which goes back to our original thesis, and proves that, as so often happens in the middle east, it is once again all about the natural resources.

"From the FT:

"The tiny gas-rich state of Qatar has spent as much as $3bn over the past two years supporting the rebellion in Syria, far exceeding any other government, but is now being nudged aside by Saudi Arabia as the prime source of arms to rebels."

Not in the neighborhood they don't. China's not gonna come down the stairs in their military party dress until they are good and ready. They may miscalculate themselves into conflict close to home, but they don't have the capability to project power far afield yet.

Have you been living under a rock? Putin has been modernizing the hell out his military. It's his absolute priority.

He's spending super mega bucks to do so.

Here you go:

The Russian Army - The Priority for Putin's Third Term

Not only has Russia recently conducted its largest unscheduled military exercises since 1991, it has also announced a 63% increase in its defense spending. The message is quite clear, says Andrzej Wilk – rejuvenating the Russian Army is a top political priority for Moscow.

By Andrzej Wilk for Centre for Eastern Studies (OSW)

July saw the largest previously unscheduled military training exercise since the collapse of the USSR, the so-called ‘readiness test’ in the Far East of the country, including up to 160,000 soldiers.

The most spectacular manoeuvres, in Sakhalin and the Trans-Baikal Region, were carried out in the presence of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Vladimir Putin. In contrast to previous such exercises (unannounced readiness tests have been continuously conducted in the Russian army since February this year), the exercises in the Far East have been widely publicised and effectively presented by the Russian government on the international arena. At the same time, the first information about the new budget for the years 2014-2016 has been revealed.

Expenditure on national defence is he only significantly growing item: this is to increase by 63% over three years, to reach US$105 billion in 2016, representing 22% of total expenditure. In a survey published on 11 July by the Levada Centre (which is relatively independent of the Kremlin), more and more Russians appear to support the country’s progressive militarisation. In the light of this popular acceptance, the modernisation of the Russian army is now becoming the undisputed priority of government policy.

A grim “urgent action memorandum” issued today from the office of President Putin to the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation is ordering a “massive military strike” against Saudi Arabia in the event that the West attacks Syria.

This entire Assad-Russian-Iran thingy is like a desparate kid shooting everywhere hoping to score

Even THEY aren't THAT stupid to start WWIII

The tension between Russia and Saudis is nothing new. Saudis have come under Russian (or erstwhile Soviet) radar since 80s when they started supporting Al Qaida / Taliban against Russians in Afghan War I. Russians accuse Saudis of financing wahabi terrorists that are operating in muslim regions of Russia. Also Russians do not co-operate with Saudi run OPEC. Russians refer to OPEC as a cartel which is there to keep oil prices up by keeping the production low. Saudis see Russians as a threat because Russian oil production has exceeded Saudi oil production and more and more European countries are preferring to buy oil from Russia (fellow Christian country) instead of Saudis.

Before Perostrika and Glasnost phase started, the erstwhile Soviet Union was considering a covert retaliation against Saudis. But then Soviet Union collapsed due to Gorbachev's reforms. After the collapse, they had Boris Yelstin who was a rudderless leader. During his reign, Russian military experienced steep decline. After Putin took over, he started to revive Russian military. The new found oil money is definitely helping Russians inch closer towards their goal but they are long way from matching the US. Also, keep in mind there are only 140 million Russians to compete with 300 million Americans. This is a permanent disadvantage for Russians.

ZOMG!

thanks for bringing this great piece of information to the attention of the board!

i will reciprocate:

So let me get this straight...

1. I point out that Russia's military is a shell of its former Soviet self, which was designed for land war in Europe and sinking ships

2. I question how current Russian military hardware could inflict a "massive strike" on Saudi Arabia and explain why

3. You counter by pointing out Putin plans to increase defense spending for 2014-2016?

You realize it is 2013 right? Showing plans for future defense spending doesn't help what Russia could do right now. What are they going to do drop those future rubles in bundles onto the hapless Syrians?

Exactly which point are you attempting to counter? If you think Russia can deliver a massive strike to Syria I invite you to explain how. I could be wrong and welcome the debate but short of nukes I don't see how it happens.

So? When did the Saudi Kingdom ever do anything for us?

Why does Russia want to destroy Saudi Arabia? Talk about starting a fire storm.

Oil/Money----It's always about oil/money

Other sources are saying that Saudi has offered Russia a secret oil deal if he does not attack them.

Personally, I don't think he will attack Saudi Arabia except to the extent he has another beef with them. If we attack Syria Putin's beef will be with the US. The cold war turns hot, 21st century edition, author Barack (the terrorist and murderer) Obama. As much as Obama hates this country it is likely he is spoiling for Russia to attack the US with a nuke.

LOL at anyone who thinks this is true.

Saudi Arabia "told" Russia it would unleash suicide bombers on them. LOL
