It becomes more difficult to retract when the facts actually come out. In this case, the true believers jumped on the rally and insisted that was the call to action, that it was what triggered the riot. Now, it's obvious that's not the case, but we have months of incessant wailing that it was, so the whole case has been fatally weakened. Hmm, if only there was some way for groups of people to check what is being said and to issue warnings that it may not be true... I wonder what we could call such groups, maybe fact checkers?
