As someone who lives in Oakland, I can confirm that riots in Oakland are few and far between...and usually instigated by people who do not live in Oakland. The recent ones include the Occupy mess, the Oscar Grant protest, and now the Zimmerman fracas.

The violent participants are a combination of anarchists who prey on Oakland to act out their hatred of Western civilization (they know our police force is understaffed and our mayor is utterly feckless) and common variety thugs who look for any opportunity to break windows and steal new sneakers.

2) They don't pay attention to facts
3) They think with emotions instead of facts
4) They blindly believe media and what others tell them instead of looking into things for themselves.

6) They have no idea what justice is.
7) They don't understand the presumption of innocence.

So far, except for a few incidents the protests have all ended peacefully. The time for highest volatility was directly after the verdict, that's when people were reacting based solely on emotion. I predict not 1 of those 100 protests turns to riots. There may be some idiots in the crowd, its pretty hard to draw a crowd of people and not get 1 or two dumbasses. But, they will be dealt with by authorities and like the other gatherings so far, no violence will ensue
