Russia Caves In: Pressures Syria To Put Chemical Weapons Under International Control

Now that funny!!

The only thing Obama won on this is the flying fickle finger of fate,he as made an ass out of himself.

Seems like President Obama made an ass of you, the r-wingers, and the tea baggers.

Triple play!

And the UN gets control of Assads WMD's. How ironic is that? How sweet it is!

LOL UN control would be better than ether Obama or the Syrian's,nothing Ironic about that.

Please explain in rational logical expression how he made an ass out anyone but himself, just you saying it,going against everyone but Obama fluffier's that he has.

Obama can spin this as his "crackdown" on "evil chem weapons" caused Assad to give up his "evil chem weapons" to avoid an attack by "our mightier than anything ever deathstar."

Putin can spin this as "I am a peacemaker," and if you disagree, I'll put dioxin in your OJ.

President Obama wins again!

Russia To Push Syria To Put Chemical Weapons Under International Control

MOSCOW — Syria on Monday quickly welcomed a call from Russia, its close ally, to place Syrian chemical arsenals under international control, then destroy them to avert a U.S. strike, but did not offer a time frame or any other specifics.

The statement by Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Moallem appeared to mark the first official acknowledgement by Damascus that it possesses chemical weapons and reflected what appeared to be an attempt by Syrian President Bashar Assad to avoid the U.S. military attack.

Actually that's not a cave at all. He just called your boy's bluff, because he knows good and well that this has nothing to do with chemical weapons. This is foreign policy. Now, Obama will have to find another reason to bomb Syria to achieve neocon, foreign police desires of his national security team and the Jewish Lobby.

Of course Russia and are far right reactionaries caved in.

They were wrong.

A win for Obama?

More like ol' Vladimir outflanking Obama - pouncing on Kerry's remarks - and pinning the Obama Administration to the wall... here... we can help you to achieve such International Control... now, will you stop your attack?

If this was a game of chess, Putin may have check-mated our Fearless Leader...

There's always the possibility that this was scripted between the two, but, I seriously doubt that...

Kerry offered a way out and Putin and Assad jumped at it

Did John Kerry just stumble on a resolution to the crisis in Syria? - The Week

What a great idea. Maybe Hans Blix and his gang of UN inspectors can repeat what they did in Iraq. That really turned out well.

Assad hasn't 'jumped on it' that I know of. And, that idea has been floated in Britain and Europe for several weeks.

but for obama's talk of striking syria, russia would never have come up with the initiative...i don't see how this is a fail for obama

Kerry's original remarks are reported to have been extempore... off-the-cuff, and not well-considered... a 'stumble'... which was pounced upon by the Rooooskies...

Ol' Vlad and Co. know a narrow window-of-opportunity to outflank an opponent when they see one, I expect...

If they get the credit for coaxing the Syrians into giving up their chemical weapons, and if the US no longer has an even remotely-viable Casus Belli...

Then the Russians (and Vlad) will be perceived as the Winners in this little International Stare-Down Contest...

Garrrrr--onnnnn--teeeed...

Who was outflanked?

If we bombed Syria and they said.....We are sorry, here are all our chemical weapons, it would have been a major victory

This way we win without firing a shot. Diplomacy is like that sometimes

Well, for the obamahaters, it's like a game of 21. But in reality, no hearts or minds were won on Assad gassing people. Assad seems to be on a charm offensive. Perhaps its in connection with ongoing ruskie "efforts" at mediating. The US has said Assad must go, but of course that's not happening ... unless we're willing alter the status quo and directly assist the terrorists, which we won't do. Perhaps Assad is willing to give the terrorists some land.

It would not have looked so bad for Kerry if the state department had not almost immediately come out and said Kerry's remark was rhetorical and he didn't mean it.

It looks like President Putin is trying to lead the US out of the problems that obama created. NOW let obama try to sell a strike. His planned speech has been cut off at the neck.

So?

If they hand over the weapons, who needs a strike?

what we learned here -

Obama does not have the support of the people he represents.

What the international community, Russia included learned here -

Obama does not have the support of the people he represents

He does not have the support of the international community

Yes you've grasped the point of: NOW let obama try to sell a strike.

Too funny! Obama wins?

:rotflmbo:

Putins people dragged Obama's team into the back room over there. Talked about Syrias nuclear capabilities.

It seems like a win on all sides. Those who disagreed with striking don't have to see it happen, Obama can save face against a majority that opposed his idea, and the Syrians don't get bombed. Why is there even an argument over this?
